Cool Spell
October 2nd 2008 6:57 pm
We are experiencing cooler than average temperatures right now. And I’m taking advantage of it! Cool weather means that my brother Ty feels better and has a lot more energy. We’re spending our time romping and wrestling. When mom was fixing out kibble tonight, Ty and I were busy wrestling on the kitchen floor. Mom said it sounded like a troop of “River Dancers” were practicing on her tile floor. Don’t know who those people are, but I sure was having fun!!
Play Time!!
October 7th 2008 12:44 pm
WooHoo!!! It’s play time! Hope the neighbor’s didn’t want to sleep late this morning, ‘cause Annie I sure made some noise this morning. (And before 8am) We had tons of fun barking, she was up on the patio making sure I couldn’t get up there. ArroooRooo Rooo! That’s what she said!! And then we ran around the yard doing the mad puppy dashes, barking & growling all the way. Sooo much fun!!
Patton — the hunter….
October 10th 2008 12:25 pm
It was a nice cool night, just a light breeze blowing. I was crouched between the fireplace and large oak tree. Slowly I crept forward and peered around the edge of the tree. There they were…. my prey for the evening. They were totally oblivious to the fact that their every move was being watched. I was in the perfect position for pouncing. I just had to be patient and they would move into striking range. The prey slowly moved from the lower wooded corner of the yard. Didn’t they understand that I’m a puppy and can only contain my excitement so long??? Ahhh, here they come, they don’t have a clue what’s in store for them. I spring into action and pounce them. Annie takes off running for the deck, so I don’t have the chance to really practice my moves on her, but Ty on the other hand. He got the full Patton treatment. Pouncing, jumping, ear biting & tugging. Poor fella was whimpering pitifully. I kinda felt a little sorry for him and let go, but only ‘cause I heard mom calling for us to come inside. I can’t wait to try this again!!
I saw my life flash before my eyes –
October 11th 2008 3:48 pm
I saw my life flash before my eyes last night. Mom was on the phone talking to my grandmamma when she heard what sounded like a terrible dog fight. It was me and my brother Ty. Mom didn’t know what was going on. We had been playing, doing our normal wrestling, something we do everyday with no problems. What could have happened? I’ll tell you what happened.
Somehow Ty had got his two lower canine teeth hooked under my collar (sort of like a bit on a horse’s bridle). He was pulling one way trying to get loose. I was pulling and twisting the other trying to get loose. All we were accomplishing was to choke me. My collar had gotten twisted tight against my neck when I was trying to get loose. It was getting really hard to breathe! Thank dogness mom was there!! She threw the phone down and tried to get us to stand still without any success. Then she grabbed me an somehow managed to get my collar unbuckled. She was so happy that it had one of those clips that it just took two fingers to unhook rather than having a belt buckle style. Mom and I were both shaking after she got the collar off of me! I was sooo scared!!
Once mom calmed down a little, she started worrying. What would have happened to me if something like that happened again while she was at work?? She would be devastated if she came home and I had been killed by accident. That got her thinking about “breakaway” collars. She knew they made them for cats, but what about for dogs?
So when she went to the feed store today, she asked the ladies that ran it. And yes they do make collars that “breakaway” for dogs too! And they just happened to have one in stock that would fit me. It’s made by Premier and is called a KeepSafe collar. Of course mom bought it for me, if though it isn’t my color (I prefer black and this collar is blue). She just finished changing my tags to the new collar.
Mom has had dogs her whole life and she has never has something like this happen. And had never thought something like this could happen. She wants me to ask other multi-dog owners to please keep this incident in mind when letting dogs play together.
Oooopsie!

I accidentally ouchied my mom last night. I didn’t mean to hurt her, but I did. See… we were in the floor playing. She would throw a squeaky ball down the hall and I would run to get it. Then we’d play tug with the ball. Then we started to wrestle, she was messing with my feets and I was play biting on her arms. Then it happened. I jerked my head up really fast and popped mom a good one on her mouth. Instant blood…. I had busted mom’s lip, not only on the outside but on the inside too. Needless to say, our playtime came to a quick halt while mom put some ice on her lip. It’s still swollen this morning. She says too bad it was the upper lip, if it was the lower lip maybe she’d look sexy instead of goofy.
Decorations

I decorated mom’s arms when we last wrestled. I left bruise marks. Ooops! I just treat mom like she’s one of the pups, I can’t help it she’s a little more tender than a pup. She just shrugs and says “oh well”, it doesn’t stop her from playing with me. I like playing with mom, but maybe I’ll take it a little easier on her next time!
I’m gonna get me one of those!

This morning mom heard a terrible yelping noise outside while she was getting ready for work. She ran to the window to see what was going on (she was afraid it was another “collar” incident). Turns out it was just Annie teaching me about Public Enemy #1. And I’m gonna catch me one of those things. I have a stuffed squeaky one, but somehow a real one seems so much better. Anyway, Annie was busy teaching me the proper treeing form (she’s part beagle ya know) and teaching me how to sound the alarm. Annie has that higher pitched yelp that mom heard. And the more excited she gets, the higher the pitch gets. Personally I got so frustrated at those enemies that I decided to chew the tree down to get them. Mom laughed at me. Hmmmph… what does she know, every little bit of bark that I remove puts me one step closer to capturing the enemy. Mom says I need to be taking lessons from my big sis Abby since she’s the one who has captured several of the enemies. I’m not so sure about this advice. Abby and Ty were just standing next to the fence watching Annie & I. Mom says this is cause Abby is getting older and can’t move as fast as she used to, but Abby could still give me good tips on capturing said enemy. I’ll take this into consideration. Needless to say, the enemy won round one, but I will not accept defeat. The battle will continue!
Oops I did it again. 🙂
October 23rd 2008 6:22 pm
Ooops I did it again. Mom pulled in the drive tonight and I popped my head over the deck railing just like always. She noticed it immediately. I didn’t have my collar on. See she bought me this snazzy new “break-away” collar after my near death experience. She figured “no big deal, it came of while playing like it was supposed to”. She figured she would just have to walk around the yard, find it and put it back on me. Well, she saw part of the collar as soon as she walked outside. Note that I said “part”. I guess the collar broke away like it was supposed to. And I guess I thought it looked like a nice chew toy…. needless to say I don’t currently have a special collar to wear. I’m back to my regular ol’ collar. Mom is hoping nothing bad happens to me in the next few days. Says she’s off to search the pet supply sites for the best price on a new break-away collar. *Sigh* The expenses of dog ownership never end…..
Thank you, Thank you VERY Much!!

I want to take a moment to thank Dogster and my fans for allowing me to be a Daily Diary pick!! Mom and I have lots of fun telling my stories to you. And believe me… I have lots of stories to tell! Oh and in case you are wondering, mom has a new collar on order for me once again….
Errand Boy
October 26th 2008 5:42 pm
I was mom’s right paw errand boy today. First we went to fill up the vehicle with “go juice”. Seems like it had a glowing orange gas pump on the dash, guess that isn’t a good thing. Then we stopped at the lake for a walk. I got to take a couple quick dips in the lake. Out as far as my leash would go. That got me in up to mid-chest. Mom just shook her head at me. Said that the lake was freezing cold (water in this lake comes from the bottom of a dam) in the summer, it must be even colder now! Then it was off to the grocery store. I had to wait in the car until mom got back. It was like a whole whopping 15 minute wait. At least it gave me a chance to do a little people watching. Got back home and got myself a tasty little treat. Not a bad day if I do say so myself. I believe I’ll volunteer to be an errand boy again.
A little sleepy
October 28th 2008 10:22 am
About 30 minutes after having my kibble last night, I started feeling a little sleepy. This was suspicious…. I’m usually ready to play. But for some reason a full tummy equaled sleepy this time. Mom just snickered at me. What’s up with that??? I’ve been itchy since the weather changed and she said she fixed my problem. Problem?! I didn’t think I had a problem. What’s wrong with a dog doing some scratching? Isn’t that what dogs do? Well, I guess it got on her nerves, so she drugged me!!! Isn’t this doggie abuse or something? Where’s my lawyer? Where’s the activists?? It has to be against the law to drug a dog “for his own good”. Pawtooie!! I didn’t like it… even though I slept really well.
