The Protector

The Protector… that would be me. See, mom got sick Monday night, early Tuesday morning. I’ve never saw my mom act like that. She was very sick, so I took it upon myself to be her local protector. When she was being sick in the bathroom, I sat beside her. When she crawled back in bed, I crawled in bed with her. When she tried to lay on the couch, I did the same. I kept my head on her as much as possible and when I couldn’t do that, I touched her with my paw. And let me tell you, being a protector is really hard work! Especially when you are a young pup who is just bursting with energy!! I’m glad to report that mom is feeling much better today than she was yesterday. This means that I don’t have to keep as close an eye on her and I can go outside and play some 🙂
Ah Cwap!

Saturday was a wonderful, warm & sunny day! And to make things even better, it was opening day of “Patton’s Pool”! As soon as mom dragged it out from under the deck, I was ready. Before it even had water in it, I was jumping in. And when it finally had water in it… ah heaven! But then the weather had to go changing on me 😦
Yesterday it rained, looks like rain today too. What good is a pool in the rain? And the 80* temperature on Saturday was perfect pool weather. Now it’s in the upper 50s. Cwap…. But mom promises me that the warm weather will be back by the weekend 🙂
Score 1 for Patton!

You’ll never guess what I caught!!! After almost a year of trying…. I was finally successful at catching a squirrel. Mom didn’t know at first cause I left it outside on my blankie. While she was getting my dinner ready, I kept bouncing around the door wanting back outside. So she let me out and noticed that I snatched something up off of my blankie and dashed out into the yard with it. Mom followed in “hot pursuit” because she had caught a glimpse of little feet sticking out of my mouth. She was finally able to coax me back over to her and get me to drop my prize. It was a slobber/drool coated deceased squirrel who was minus a tail. She can only guess that I had eaten the tail, but I’ll never tell her! I do have to give credit to my big sister, Abby, she’s was an expert squirrel catcher in her younger days and she has been giving me lessons!
Warm weather!

Oh yes!! The weather has warmed up and we have temperatures in the high 80s. Perfect for taking little dips in my Patton pool. Mom was kind enough to get it out from under the deck last weekend and fill it up for me. But I only had one nice day for pool time then. My how things change in just a week! I’ve been using it every day since this past Friday. Yipppeeee!!! Splish-n-slash! I certainly know how to be a cool dog on a hot day…now I just need to convince my siblings to join me. Hmmmm…..
Another one bites the dust….
April 30th 2009 9:53 am
Yes indeed… another one bite the dust yesterday. And no, I’m not talking about another squirrel. When mom got home from work yesterday, she let us in from the yard. The first thing she noticed was my collar laying on the deck landing. Then it sunk in… not ANOTHER one!! See, in all her years as a dog owner (and she’s had dogs since she was a wee one) she has never had a dog who can go through collars like I can.
At least she was pleased to see that this collar “broke away” like it was designed to. I like to lay on the landing of the deck and survey my kingdom. Mom is guessing at some point I wiggled just right and my ID & registration tags got stuck between two boards. Ugh! I was stuck good if the effort it took mom to free the tags was any indication. She’s so happy that I was able to free myself and not get hurt. I will tell you that it made me mad being stuck and I blamed that collar for it too! So I chewed the collar up after it broke apart. Now mom has to buy me a new one. She is sold on these collars for a rough & tumble pup like me! This is the second time this type of collar could have saved my life and I’m guessing my life must be worth a lot cause mom keeps getting me these safety collars (even though they are pretty pricey!).
Little Bunny
May 8th 2009 9:53 am
Mom has been debating whether she would let me write about my latest capture, and she finally said I could! First of all, let me tell you I got in trouble for this one, mom wasn’t happy with me one little bit!
Wednesday night was just like any other night. Eat my kibble, lay around the house, play with toys and go out for potty breaks. Well, one particular potty break turned into an adventure for me. I have this little route or routine I follow when I go out. I shoot off the deck, go to the corner of the yard and make a lap along the fence line. It was dark outside and mom had turned on a flood light so she could keep track of were we were. About that time, mom noticed a little bunny in the middle of the yard. She was concerned about the bunny, but thought it would run away as soon as it heard us pups, and figured it would have enough time since I always do the same routine.
I’m guessing this bunny wasn’t as smart as the normal yard bunnies. It didn’t run away as soon as we hit the yard. It sat there and the longer it sat there, the more worried mom got. I got halfway through my run and then I noticed the bunny. The chase was on! It ran towards the opposite fence, but didn’t make it through the chain link. Then it headed back towards mom, still didn’t make it through the fence. But this time I caught it. Mom was horrified!!! She was screaming at me to “leave it” meaning I should drop it. How unfair is that? I caught it fair and square! But in the end, I did drop the bunny. Mom escorted me back inside the house. I wasn’t happy about this… I wanted to look for the bunny. She told me in no uncertain terms that I was NOT going to be looking for the bunny, she was. So off she goes with two flashlights. First she checked our yard… no bunny, then she checked the neighbor’s yard, still no bunny. She looked for about 30 minutes and never found the bunny. She’s hoping that I just scared the bunny and didn’t really hurt it.
I knew my mom was mad about what I had done. I stayed out of her way the rest of the evening. I thought I was really going to be in the doghouse over this. But when she went to bed, she called me and said I could sleep on the end of her bed. I knew then that she wasn’t really mad at me anymore.
