Dear Mr. Mailman

Dear Mr. Mailman,
Thanks a lot for telling mom about our little game. Now she knows about it and it isn’t quite as fun as it used to be. It was our little secret, even the neighbor hadn’t said anything to mom about it… so all was cool. Then on Saturday, you see mom working on the carport and decide to stop and chat instead of dropping the mail & going on your way. YOU told her about our game!!! You told her about how you keep waiting on my Rose of Sharon tree to fall. YOU told her about how I chew, yank and bite on the tree as you talk to me when you are walking through the side yard. YOU laughed about how I bark, growl and snarl like a real bad boy! YOU told mom about how I’m pulling on her rose trellis and how you figured I would tear it down eventually. How could you go and spoil my fun like that?? I thought we were guy buddies… you know the type who act like they are really tough when they are around other guys? Geez….
Not so sure about this..

I’m not so sure about this new foster pup that is living with me. “He” arrived yesterday afternoon. AND he thinks just because his name is “Boss” that it makes him the boss of my home. Personally I don’t think so! He tried to bite me a couple of times last night. Thank dogness mom was there (she wasn’t leaving us unsupervised since she doesn’t know this dog’s history). She promptly grabbed the foster’s collar and moved him away from me. He spent the night in his crate. I think he may have settled down a little now…. at least he didn’t try to attack me when mom let us out this morning to do our business.
In case you are wondering, Boss is a white boxer with faint black spots. He’s goofy… but I still don’t care very much for him. Mom promises me that this is a short-term foster, just long enough for his owner to find a new apartment or a new home for Boss. I guess I can deal with that… since it’s only for a few weeks.
Strange yet Familiar

Mom came home today and she smelled strange, yet familiar at the same time. I had to do a complete scan of her… I’d sniff and my tail would wiggle a tiny bit. Then I’d sniff more and it would really WAG!! Mom was amused by this. She thinks the big wags was when I came across the smell of an old friend.
Mom went to visit my former foster-sister (and now cousin) Sasha today. While Sasha lived with us, we were the best of buddies. We had tons of fun playing and wrestling. Mom’s sister finally decided that her dog, Misty, needed a playmate, so Sasha went to live with her.
After sniffing Sasha’s scent on mom, I think she needs to take me the next time she goes to visit!! What do you guys think???
Something new

I tried something new last night, or at least I think it’s new… I don’t remember having it before. *scratches head* No, I’m pretty sure I’ve never had it before. It’s this wonderful, cool, sweet treat called “watermelon”! It was pawsome!! Mom was eating some and I was observing. I got curious and slid closer to her plate. Hmmm…. interesting. So I acted all cute and she gave me a bite. Yummy! I likes this stuff!
I guess my brother Ty likes it too. He was busy drooling all over the floor. He like the green part too, I think that’s called the rind. I don’t care too much for that part, I prefer the red. But if you want to see Ty eating watermelon, he has a couple videos on his page. They are about a year old, but perfect for a summer time treat!
Drats!

Mom let us pups out early this morning to do our business and to enjoy the cool morning air. (She went back to bed.) Well, when mom gets up this morning, she lets us back inside for our breakfast and some loving. In a short amount of time, I insist that I must go back outside. This isn’t too odd since I really like being outdoors. I dart out the door and grab what mom assumes is a toy off my blankie on the deck. Upon close inspection, mom realizes that the “toy” isn’t the de-stuffed Canada goose that I normally drag around. The “toy” is a dead raccoon!!! Mom is very started by this and concerned too.
I promptly run off the deck and dash around the yard. Proudly carrying my prize. Mom coaxed me back to the deck and put her hand on my collar and said “Drop it”. So I spit it out and mom bagged it up. Bummer. I’ll never tell mom where I got that marvelous toy!
Setting my sights on something bigger
July 20th 2009 10:24 am
I let mom know yesterday morning that I’ve set my sights on something bigger. I’ve caught a squirrel, a rabbit and even a raccoon. Now I’m setting my sights on something bigger. I spied it outside my fence yesterday, right down at the edge of the woods. It was nibbling the honeysuckle that is growing on the fence. I have my sights set on a DEER!!
He was a big one too! Had a big hat on his head with prongs coming out of it. Mom told me that was called “antlers” and the he was a 6-point buck. Bah… I don’t care for those fancy terms, all I know is that I want to catch it.
Now… how do I lure it into the yard???…..
Ruff Nite

When mom got home from work yesterday, she noticed that I was scratching… a lot! Then she noticed that I had welts or hives on my sides. She gave me a Benadryl and then I had a bath. That seemed to help– for a while. Then the itchies came back! Even worse than before. Mom was out of Benadryl so she called the neighbor and he had one left, mom took it and said I would thank him for it. That one didn’t work as good as the first one. I was very uncomfortable. Mom put me in the bathtub again, this time with different shampoo. That helped for about 30 minutes, then I was back scratching again. I think mom might have gotten a few hours of sleep last night between all of my tossing & turning. Finally around 4:30 this morning, the itchies started going away. I hopped back up on mom’s bed, snuggled up beside her and laid my head on her arm. That’s were I spent the rest of my night.
This morning mom loaded me up and brought me to work with her. She wants to keep an eye on me in case the itchies come back. AND she might take me to the dog park on her lunch hour!!
Bummer

I did NOT get to go to the dog park today. My hives came back while I was with mom at work. 😦
So she called the vet and had a lengthy chat with him on the phone. Then I was loaded up and taken back home. Then I had medicine given to me. But I didn’t care too much since it was hidden inside a pill pocket.
We are hoping that this was all started by an insect bite and the Benadryl & steroids will clear up the itchy hives. Mom’s trying the vet’s suggested route first. If I’m still having this problem on Monday… well it’s a vet trip for me 😦 AND I DON’T WANNA GO TO THE VET!!
Feeling less itchy
August 11th 2009 6:33 pm
My itchies are slowly fading away. Mom is still giving me some Benadryl, but only when she sees me itching and not stopping. That translates into a very small dose 🙂
I guess you can read my sister Annie’s diary and hear all about the weekend bath. I didn’t have to have one since I had two on Thursday night. I decided the best thing to do would be to show my siblings some water support. While they were being scrubbed & hosed down, I was observing from the warm water comfort of my swimming pool!! I don’t think they appreciated me laughing at them!
