Ouch!

I was sitting on the couch next to Mom on Wednesday night & she was rubbing my face. Ahhh … nice! And then she noticed that her hand was wet, then she noticed that it was blood on her hand! Yikes! I was bleeding. Seems like something had injured my ear.

Mom cleaned the blood off of me and put some nice ointment on my ouchie ear. She was worried that I catch some critter in the yard and that was how I hurt my ear. After a careful examination of the yard, no deceased critters were located.

On Thursday night, dad noticed that I was holding my head up higher than normal when Ugg was around. Remember that Ugg is a puppy, with razor-sharp puppy teeth. Ugg is now the most likely culprit for my injured ear. The peeps seem to think that Ugg jumped up and caught the end of my ear with those terrible teeth!

I can’t wait until Ugg matures enough to be a responsible sibling and stops the biting attacks.

Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! And I hope y’all survived the Black Friday madness!

Figured I would  give you an update on my new sibling. I’m starting to warm up to Ugg. Mom caught me allowing him to snuggle up to me this morning. Ugg went to the vet today for another round of shots. Glad it was him and not me! He now weighs 6.1 pounds. All the ladies at the vet’s office say he’s grown some in the past few weeks. Guess that is good news. If he as bigger I wouldn’t worry about hurting him while we play.

Patton & Ugg snuggling on the deck

And since I’m getting used to Ugg, I’m back to my normal relaxed self in the house. I took a nice long nap last night in my favorite chair, using a favorite toy as a pillow.

Busy Week

This past week has been a busy one of me. Full of surprises, some good and some not so good.

First, the not so good. Monday night starts just like normal. Mom comes home & gives Pixie & I some loving. Then we get our kibble… YUM! And then it goes off its tracks… Pop comes home and walks in with something in his arms. It’s a puppy! And not just any puppy! It’s the one called Ugg that mom has been talking about. The one that I made it perfectly clear that I did not want. Glad to see that my parents care about my feelings.

The puppy’s arrival has made my life stressful. It has been years since I’ve had to deal with a puppy. They bounce so much. And they have sharp teeth! And they have high-pitched yippy yappy barks!

Now, here’s something good. Mom spent yesterday working in the yard. Hours upon hours spent blowing the leaves in the back yard. She made a pile in the lower yard that is simply HUGE! I can’t wait to start tunneling though it. WhooHoo!

And I finally started playing with the puppy yesterday. That made mom release a sigh of relief. I’m still not crazy about the puppy, but I’m not so stressed out either. Mom is very pleased about this. She wants all of us to get along & be happy. I still don’t like having the puppy close to me though, the only person I like snuggling with is mom!

The Squirrel Incident

When mom got home from work yesterday, I was out on the deck as usual. What wasn’t usual was the lack of greeting. Normally I bark my happiness to see mom and normally I’ll stand on my hind legs, front legs on the rail & peer out at mom. Those things did not happen. Mom was puzzled.

Mom came inside and walked across the living room to look out on the deck. I just stood there and furiously wagged my tail at mom. She asked me if I was ready to eat. Duh! What a stupid question, I’m always in the mood for food. I get my bowl of kibble with a few spoonfuls of pumpkin on top. Yum Yum! I polished up my food bowl and was more than ready to go back outside…

Mom walked to the door to watch us run. Then she spotted it… the reason for my unusual behavior. Turns out I was standing in a certain spot when mom got home for a reason. It blocked her view of a certain prized possession that I had acquired while she was busy at work. I had caught myself a nice fat squirrel… again. Yes, this is not the first time that I have obtained this prize. Needless to say, mom did not let me keep my toy. And I didn’t even mess it up! It looked like it was just napping on the deck… laying on its side… not breathing… but how is that my fault?! I had to watch my new toy being placed in a bag and disposed of. I searched the deck from end to end, I even searched the yard. But my precious was gone!

Rub-a-dub-dub

Rub-a-dub-dub,
Big Patton in a tub,

And how do you think he got there?

Well, I’ll tell you how I got there… I hopped right in!

Mom said today was bath day for Pixie & myself. She said we were stankie, stankie, stankie! In other words… we smelled like dogs! BOL!!

I don’t mind taking baths, that’s the reason I will just hop right into the tub when mom asks me too. I love the water in any shape or form. Pixie on the other hand… well let’s just say that bath time is NOT her favorite time. She will try to hide from mom and then she’ll try to jump out of the tub before she is even soaped up! Of course, Pixie & I both enjoy the after bath time. We both are usually all hyper and ready to play. We have a blast romping around after taking a bath.

A new sibling??!!

Mom spotted a puppy on our vet’s Facebook page. Seems like this puppy is in need of a home… seems like mom has fallen in love with this puppy… seems she thinks it reminds her of me when I was little. I’m not so sure I want another sibling. Every time mom asks me if I do, I either growl or shake my head. I think I’m making my feelings pretty clear. I like having mom mostly to myself. Of course I still have to share mom with Pixie, but everyone knows that I am the favorite child 🙂

Any way, here’s a photo of the puppy that mom is currently cooing over. I don’t see the resemblance to myself. Mom is saying if he isn’t adopted this month, then she will probably do it herself next month. That means I have one month to convince someone else that they need this kid for their own!

And for comparison purposes… here’s my baby photo

Where Did Fall Go?

Where did fall go? On Tuesday it was a nice toasty 82 degrees. Then a cold front came through Tuesday night and brought rain and thunder with it. Then right behind it came the cold weather! I mean on Wednesday our temperature was almost 40 degrees cooler than it was the day before.

Mom saw on Facebook that Mt LeConte received about an inch of snow on Tuesday afternoon. And today it was 24 degrees there this morning! Woof! That is very cold!! Pixie agrees about the cold… as much as she hates having her sweater put on her skinny self, she sure does enjoy it once it is on her.

I think Mr Sunshine is supposed to reappear this weekend and get the temperatures back to “normal”. Mom says she can’t wait, but she isn’t thrilled about raking all the leaves that are starting to fall.

Where did spring go?

March 31st 2011 6:29 am

I really want to know. About 2 weeks ago we had nice warm, almost hot days. Temperatures were in the 80s for highs. Mom even opened up my swimming pool for me. It was very nice. And then something happened….

Bright skies went away, dark clouds rolled in…. cold & heavy rains moved in… winds were howling… even had some whirly winds in the area! And it’s cold again!!

My poor pool is sitting unused on the patio. I thought spring had sprung, but I guess the calendar lied. Right now it’s more like early winter. The talky box even said that we might see some snow flurries/showers!! YIKES!

Summertime Already?

April 11th 2011 10:28 am

Where did spring go? These past few days have seemed more like summer than spring. We’ve had high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. That makes for a very hot puppy! So mom broke out my swimming pool for me. Yes, it probably will have to go back into storage in a few days, but I’ll take advantage of it while the weather lasts! I tell you that cool water feels great on my tummy! My siblings don’t quite get the hint. They lay on the deck all day & pant, while I chill in my pool. Silly siblings!

Strange Smells

May 1st 2011 6:59 pm

Mom came home again with some strange smells on her. I think I’m always singing that song… Strange Magic, but with my own lyrics:

“I get a strange smell, Oh what a strange smell, Oh it’s a strange smell, Got a strange smell, Got a strange smell”

That’s how I feel on the weekends. Last weekend mom came home smelling like 4 strange dogs. She said she was a back up driver on a transport, but wasn’t needed once all the dogs were walked & watered.

Then today she comes home with some really strange smells. I can’t even begin to decide what the smells were. I smelled strange trees, water… and who knows what else!

SHE says they are working on getting a surprise ready and that us “kids” will really enjoy it. She promises that the water smell will really make me happy. Supposedly it has something to do with a swimming pool beyond my wildest imagination. Harrumph! I’ll have to see it to believe it!!

Chipmunk Breath

May 19th 2011 7:12 am

Ok, here’s how it was…. I had a very busy week. I was tired and wanted to relax. I was chilling with my peeps in the living watching TV. I was doing double duty as loyal defender and foot warmer. Mom leaned over and gave me a nice big hug and I rewarded her with a big yawn in her face. She jerk back and proceeds to tell me that I have chipmunk breath! Now what would give her that idea? Was it because pf the found the remains of said chipmunk in the yard when she was doing scoop duty? Hmmmm…. maybe that did clue her in.

The next night I dig around in the small toy box and find my favorite rope chewy toy. It has a wonderful nubby rubber piece in the center that the rope runs through. I spend a large amount of time chewing and licking my toy. Mom should appreciate how well I’m brushing my teeth all on my own. AND getting rid of the chipmunk breath at the same time.

Then last night it happened. I was caught in the act! Mom had come home and fixed up our food bowls. Of course, being the good boy that I am, I licked my bowl nice and clean. And I wanted to go back outside as soon as mom would let me. I was dancing at the door. Mom finally took the hint and opened it. I raced out on the deck frantically sniffing and snatched something up off of my blanket. Mom instantly yelled for me to drop it. She had caught me red pawed with the chipmunk that I had caught earlier in the day. Back into the house I go and out comes the little shovel mom keeps for such instances. I watched her scoop chipmunk up and go down the stairs into the yard with it. When she came back, my prize was gone and I couldn’t find it anywhere in the yard. Guess I’ll have to catch a new one today.

This & That

June 9th 2011 6:29 am

It’s been hot in my part of the world so I’ve been taking it easy. Trying to stay cool. So most of my adventuring has been taking place at night before bedtime. Not that it’s that much cooler, but at least the sun isn’t baking me. It was 83* last night at 11pm! And it was humid, so it felt hotter than it was.

But last night mom decided to be lazy and just make hot dogs. I think everyone knows how much I adore those wonderful things! I was mom’s kitchen helper, from the time she opened the pack until the time she let me have a bite! YUMMM!! Wieners!

And speaking of that word, wiener… I’ve been hearing it a lot on TV. Every time I hear it, my ears perk up and I start to drool. What’s up with everyone saying “wiener” lately??!

Mom put up a tent in the unfenced yard yesterday. She says that we will be going camping soon on the property. Hmmmm… the property, that elusive place that the peeps go and never take me. They come back smelling of all kinds of strange things. I’ll be interested in investigating this place, but I’m not so sure of this camping thing. I sort of enjoy the luxury of sleeping on the foot of mom’s cushy bed and having the cool air surround me. That tent doesn’t appear to have all the creature comforts that I am used to having. We shall see how it goes.

Flash, flash ….. BOOOM!!

June 21st 2011 7:01 am

Okay, since my last entry we’ve had a “few” severe thunderstorms. One just happened to occur while mom was at work and I was enjoying some outside time. The storm passed through before mom could make it home to let me inside. Well, that storm was a doozie! Lightening struck one of the large oak trees in the yard AND it struck the house. Now mind you, I’m not especially fond of storms and not mean ones like that one was. I was one freaked out puppy when mom got home.

And then Mother Nature had the nerve to do it again on Saturday! Rumble, rumble, roar, crash, boom, flash! Mom was out picking up medicine for Ty and food for the humans. PopPop was home and he let us in. He will do in a pinch, but there really isn’t any substitute for my mommy! As soon as she pulled in the driveway I was waiting for her at the door. Nothing like snuggling with mom on the couch when the thunder roars!

Adventure Time

July 18th 2011 1:00 pm

Mom asked me on Sunday if I was ready to go on an adventure. And I replied “yes, of course!”. See I’ve been working on my answering questions skill and I can actually reply now. BOL!

Anyhoo… seems like the peeps are finally ready to let me see this place they come home smelling of every weekend. And mind you, sometimes they come home past my kibble time and I’m not pleased about this.

They say we are going camping this weekend. I guess they put up a big tent, whatever that is. And fenced in an area to keep us pups safe. My favorite thing that’s been mentioned so far is the pond/lake. According to the maps, it’s Cove Lake, according to the peeps, it’s too small to be a lake, thus it must be a pond. Whatev! As long as I can swim in it, I’m happy!!

If all goes well, this might be a frequent summer adventure! Keep your paws crossed and I’ll update you after we come back from the ‘venture.

Hot Enough

July 25th 2011 5:44 am

Okay, here’s the deal. Mom kept talking about us having an adventure. I was all on board for that. But what I didn’t realize that this said adventure did not include AC except for the drive. YIKES! Do you realize how hot it gets in late July in Tennessee?? Let’s just say steamy & sultry are not accurate descriptions.

Anyway, the adventure involved driving to the peeps property next to the mountains. That’s cool. At least now I can put a place to all the smells that come home with them on their clothes. The peeps had put up a big tent, a canopy “patio” to make sure everyone had plenty of shade and a fenced area so Pixie & I could safely investigate things.

Me checking out the "camping yard"

We also went for a walk down to the lake/pond. OH Boy! Was I ever happy to see that. I almost pulled mom in when I spotted all that nice cool water. I couldn’t wait to wade in & sit down. Then we went back up to the tent. It was hot and the storms that were in the area never really materialized. At least they did bring a little cooler temperatures and a little bit of a breeze.

I’m all for going back again, but I hope it’s a little cooler next time. I mean a battery operated fan can only help so much. And I hope on my next drive home that we don’t get next to a strange-looking and loud motorcycle. That one yesterday upset my apple cart as mom says. It took me a while to get brave enough to look out the truck window again.

My Vacation

September 4th 2011 4:11 pm

Pixie & I actually went on a little vacation with mom & dad. We went camping in the Mt Pisgah National Forest. I had lots of fun hiking and swimming in the mountain streams. I enjoyed the outside events.

Dad had a friend come up and stay in the campground with us. We had the whole site to ourselves! It took me a while, but I warmed up to pop’s friend. I even let him pet me. Then the next day, 2 more people showed up. I was suspicious of them and didn’t approach them, but I didn’t really act out either. Mom was proud of me. Then last night another person showed up. I will admit that finally did push me over the edge. If y’all recall, I don’t do real well with lots of new people in a short span of time. Mom made sure that dad explained to these people who I have trust issues, it is best just to pretend that I’m not there. Don’t talk to me and I’m a happy hound.

And to make it even worse, the nearby town shot off fireworks! YIKES!! Those booms were louder than any thunderstorm could ever be! And they echoed off the mountains. Mom packed me & Pixie up and headed into the tent. That made all of us much happier.

But overall, it was a lot of fun. Mom says we will try it again sometime. BUT it won’t be on a holiday weekend, so she won’t have to worry with the fireworks. And if she can avoid it, she won’t let dad invite so many people.

January – March 2011

I get my point across
January 23rd 2011 5:30 pm

I have pretty much perfected the art of getting my point across to my humans. If there’s something on the counter, stove top, or in the refrigerator that I want… we’ll let’s just say I know how to let the humans know.

I started this little “trick” back many months ago when mom made hot dogs for dinner & didn’t share. Back then I just would sit in front of what I wanted & stare. Well, that worked OK, but not well enough. Now I figured out how to super charge my demands.

See it goes like this. There’s a tub of dog cookies on the kitchen counter. I want some cookies. The humans don’t seem to understand that I need to have dessert after my dinner and a bedtime snack too. So I start out with the original sit & stare. Sometime this gets noticed, but more times than not, the peeps are more interested in whatever is on that stupid TV. So that means it is time to super charge my demand.

Super charging means that I take the above mentioned technique and add a very low growl to it. Mom almost always hears it. I think she has hearing close to us pups. She can hear EVERYTHING! Even the things us pups don’t want her to hear us doing. Anyway, the growl gets noticed 99% of the time. Of course this just amuses mom to no great end. But mom is mean. She won’t immediately get me the item that I am requesting. Nope, she makes me wait. Sometimes it’s only a few minutes and sometimes it’s as long as 30 minutes. But 9 times out of 10 I get the item I requested. If I don’t get that item, I at least get some sort of reward. Mom thinks that I’m starting to be scary smart!

My ruff year
January 28th 2011 10:24 am

This past year has been a ruff one for me & my family. Some of you may remember that I lost my best play buddy, my sister Annie, to a sudden brain tumor back in March. I still miss her 😦 I was so depressed mom adopted Pixie to be my companion & playmate. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pixie, but she sure isn’t an Annie.

Things went fairly well until summer. Then my big sis Abby got pancreatitis. She felt so bad, but she eventually bounced back. You could tell her age & health issues were slowly creeping up on her.

Then things really took a nose dive in December. Abby got sick again, she’d suddenly lost weight. Mom took her back to the vet, and got the devastating news that Abby had cancer. Things didn’t look good.

Then right before Christmas, mom went out for a quick shopping trip after we had eaten our dinner. When she got home, she gave us treats. We LOVE treats. But my brother Ty didn’t want his and he was acting strange. Mom touched is sides and she knew what was wrong. He had bloat. Off to the after hours pet clinic for emergency surgery!

January rolls around and it seems like all we were getting was snow. Abby’s health was continuing to decline. She lost her battle with cancer on the 10th. That same day, my kitty brother, Pip, went to the vet with an UTI.

Pip sort of recovered from the UTI but something else was going on. Back to the vet he went. He stayed there for a week. Nothing the vets tried worked. He went to the Rainbow Bridge on the 25th of this month to join Annie & Abby.

Mom & I say enough is enough! It’s time to turn things around and only have good, happy, positive things happen! That’s my wish for the rest of the year, not only for my family, but for all my pals & their families too!!

Patton 2.0
February 7th 2011 6:56 pm

One of my friends has a mom that has been feeling a little sad. Well, I like to think that my stories can help cheer her up & make her smile. So I’m dedicating this tale to her. *paws crossed that it works*

Patton 2.0
He’s brighter, stronger, smarter…. He’s Patton 2.0

I’ve been working on being annoying and cute, all at the same time. I have been programmed to wake up at 6:45 every day and I mean every day. I don’t know the meaning of sleeping in on a weekend.

At 6:35am, I hop off the bed and make a perimeter patrol around the inside of the house. All looks well, so I hop back on the bed. Did I mention that my bouncing on/off has woken up my mom? And she isn’t pleased.

6:40 am – I start making sure that mom does not oversleep. You know some one has to put in the hours to make sure I have plenty of kibble, cookies and toys to enjoy. I make sure mom doesn’t oversleep by doing a few assorted things.

1) I lay my chin on her shoulder & snort in her ear. If mom wasn’t trying to sleep, she would thing this is cute. This usually results in her turning over and putting her back to me. I’m pretty sure she’s muttering about how she still has 5 minutes to sleep.

2) I continue with the staring routine and add in the super cute “wiggle waggly tail”. This is a fairly simple move. I just wag my curly tail like a rattle snake. I make sure I put lots of effort into it too. This will make the bed shake and earn me more muttering.

3) If all else fails, it’s time to break out the heavy guns. And that is simply my body weight. I will drape myself over mom’s side. Most of the time, this makes her roll over onto her back. This gives me the perfect chance to make my move. I stand up and sit back down on her chest!

Option #3 yields the best results to date. Mom usually start squealing that I’m suffocating her. Ha! I know better than that. If she can’t breath, she can’t squeal. I reward her with a nice sloppy smooch. And… well, if she starts rubbing my ears and scratching my head I will move off of her. By this time, the alarm clock is playing some sort of annoying music. This means it is kibble time.

I prance down the hallway, snag a toy out of my toy box and continue into the living room while I sling my toy around. Oh happy morning! It’s kibble time!!

However, I will admit that weekends do require some extra work. Mom is much more stubborn on the weekends. Every now and then I’ll toss her a bone and let her sleep until 8:30am.

Maybe Patton 3.0 will figure out a way to fix the weekend “bug”.

Scary night
February 9th 2011 10:32 am

I had a scary night last night. It started out normal enough, eating my kibble, getting a treat, snuggling on the couch. Then it happened. My brother Ty had a seizure.

Now mind you the ER vet told the pawrents that he’d had several while he was there having emergency surgery for bloat (right before Christmas). Since he’d never had them before, this was sort of chalked up to the stress & medicines he was on at the ER. He was put on phenobarbitol to control the seizures, “just in case”. Well our regular vet was working on weaning Ty off the phenobarb since he hadn’t had any seizures or signs of them. Next week would have been his last week on the medicine.

Mom took Ty to work with her today so she can keep a watch on him. And to keep him safe from me. See, I got really upset last night when I saw him having the seizure. After Ty recovered from the seizure, I would growl at him anytime he came close to me. I even had my hackles up. By the time bedtime rolled around, I had pretty much calmed down. But to be on the safe side, mom thought a day apart might not be a bad idea, especially if there was the slightest chance that Ty might have another seizure.

So after speaking with the vet this morning, the decision has been made to keep Ty on the phenobarb permanently. And his dosage will be increase to 2 pills a day. Hopefully this will prevent any new seizures. Mom certainly hopes so. She says she can’t take too much more doggy drama right now.

Snicker, Snicker, Snort!
February 10th 2011 1:10 pm

Oh man! I forgot to tell you guys what I did to my dad. Heeheehee! Of course he didn’t think it was funny, but my mom dies laughing every time he mentions it. Well, here goes–

Earlier this week I was lounging on the couch watching TV with the pawrents. Mom was on one end, dad on the other and myself stretched out between. Of course mom was graced with my head in her lap and dad… well, let’s just say he had a less than pleasant side of me. See… I’ve had a little stinky butt issue. It clears up then months later it will flare up again. Needless to say, it had flared up again. And no, I did not smell like roses.

Dad had made several comments to mom this particular night about how bad I smelled & he figured it was time for a little V-E-T visit. Hmmmm…. I heard that mister! So I decided to extract some revenge. All night long, I allowed that area to come in direct contact with dad’s jean clad leg. Heeheehee! He didn’t realize that I was releasing my secret weapon until it was too late!

I cured my stink butt problem by releasing the stink right on to dad’s leg! Heeheehee!! And guess what! It worked! Dad had to immediately launder his pants because they smelled SO bad! And you know what? I haven’t had stink butt since that night! No V-E-T visit for this smart boy!

Adding to my Skillz!
March 14th 2011 8:46 pm

I’m adding to my skill set. I’ve told you about my “growling” to express what I want. Know I’m adding something new to the mix. I’m starting to speak in response to questions. The other night, I’m laying on the couch between the pawrents. Dad says “Patton, do you want a cookie?” I sit up, look at him, look at the kitchen, look back at him. Then I hop onto the ottoman look at dad and let out a great big woof! I proceeded to escort dad to the kitchen and then I assumed the sitting pretty position. That was an awesome cookie. And I impressed the ‘rents with my new speaking abilities! Watch me talk in the video below!

Dog Days
August 4th 2010 12:46 pm

So far my opinion of the dog days of summer isn’t very high. I enjoy spending time outside, but good grief! How about giving a guy a break Mother Nature? I mean look, it was 80* this morning when mom left for work and that was at 8am this morning. That is nothing compared to what the heat index is and has been. At 12:45pm the heat index is 105*. That is high enough to make one super hot dog. Normally I enjoy running around the yard, chasing squirrels, chasing Pixie and just having fun. Now it is too hot to even enjoy taking a dip in my swimming pool!

Flash, Flash, BOOM!
August 16th 2010 1:34 pm

We’ve been having some summer storms. Now when it simply rains, I don’t mind, but when it does the flash booms… I don’t like it!

I’ve been trying to get mom to write this entry for me for almost a week. Now that she’s taking some time off from work, she should be able to get everyone up to date.

Last Tuesday morning I was minding my own business… sleeping peacefully right next to mom on the bed. The sound of heavy rain slowly seeped into my brain. No problem, rain falling on the roof is sort of soothing. Then it happened! A big bright flash and an unbelievably loud BOOM! Lightening has struck and struck some where close by. It was loud enough to wake mom up too! She says that I jumped straight up. Harumph! I don’t doubt that, but I’m sure that I was graceful doing it. Needless to say after that rude awakening, I had to make sure mom was safe, so I snuggled up next to her at the head of the bed.

Even Abby joined us on the bed. She’s always been afraid of storms, but since her hearing has been fading, she doesn’t always seem to notice the storms. But this time she did. So mom helped her up on the bed too. Between us pups, we kept mom safe from those nasty flash flash booms!

Football time in TN
September 4th 2010 11:19 am

It’s football time in Tennessee!!! And we have another new coach this year. Here’s hoping that Coach Dooley will have a pawsome season. I’ve been practicing all morning long on the off-chance that Coach Dooley recruits me for the team. I’m real good at carrying the football!

The big grind
September 15th 2010 9:22 am

Long before I came along, mom decided to get rid of an ugly raised flower bed that resided in the corner of our back yard. Little did she know that this bed hid a big secret… a huge tree stump! For years she’s been trying to get rid of this stump. Us pups have tried to help over the years by tunneling under it in our quest to catch a chipmunk. But even with these efforts, that stump refused to surrender.

Monday evening, the stump met its match. Mom’s neighbor a few houses down rented a huge stump grinder. It looked like some sort of monster! Anyhoo…. that monster eventually made its way into my back yard. I have to admit, it made me nervous but I was very curious about it. Mom put us pups in the house since the big gates into the yard were open. I really wanted to know what was going on & I was glued to the deck door. But I couldn’t see what was going on!

Mom eventually put up the baby gate on the deck stairs. Pixie & I were allowed out on the deck so we could observe the monster. And we had a good vantage point too. (Our deck is way up in the air!) I could peer over the edge & watch that monster biting into that stump, chewing it up & spitting out sawdust! YIKES! That’s one mean monster!!

I was nervous about all the noise the monster was making, but not afraid. Mom kissed my nose & said she was very proud of me. I was such a big boy not to be afraid of the grinder. I’ll accept that praise, but I don’t think I want to meet that monster in a dark alley!

Bye, Bye Birdie!
October 8th 2010 4:03 pm

Mom looked out the deck door yesterday afternoon, and she looked at the wrong time! I had just come up from the yard with my latest capture. Mom took one look at me and said “drop it”. And what caused her to say that to me you may ask? Could it have had something to do with the two skinny legs she saw sticking out of my mouth??

Needless to say, it was bye, bye birdie in more than one way. Sadly the birdie didn’t survive its time spent in my mouth. And when mom says drop it, she means drop it and don’t pick it up again. She disposed of my birdie. Bye, Bye my poor little birdie….

I’m SO honored!

I’m so honored to be picked as Dogster’s Feature Diary of the Day! It’s something I’ve always hoped for. *sigh* Now one of my dreams has finally come true. I’ve been one of the diary picks a few times in the past, but never quite made it to the top slot. But now that has changed! I want to dedicate my day in the spotlight to my dear sister Annie. If she was still here, she would be grouching about how she’d been writing her diary longer and how she should have been the one picked. BUT secretly she would have been so happy for me. Maybe she knew that I was going to be picked & maybe that’s why I decided to sleep the whole night in her favorite spot on the bed. Who knows? I just know that I’m so happy to be picked!

My Kingdom for a…

A HOT DOG, A HOT DOG, my kingdom for a HOT DOG! For pete’s sake! Is it so hard for my mom to understand that?? I mean come on… they had hot dogs Sunday night. They divided one wiener up between the four of us pups. That mean that I only got a measly 25% of a hot dog. Beggars can’t be choosers, but come on!! Then to add to the suffering, turns out there was a leftover wiener that mom didn’t share. She ate it herself last night. AND DIDN’T SHARE! My keen sense of smell clued me in on this awful betrayal. I was making my rounds through the kitchen and my nose let me straight to the sink. I sat down in front of it and thought for a moment. Surely my nose had to be wrong, there was no way my mom would betray me like this. So I lifted my nose up in the air and took a big sniff. Yes, I was correct, I smelled a hot dog. She ate one & didn’t share! The empty container must have been in the sink. So I continued to sit in front of the sink with my nose up in the air. Mom saw me and.. can you believe this?… SHE LAUGHED AT ME! The nerve of that woman. She knows how much I adore hot dogs and she laughed at me. At least she did get the container out of the sink so I could lick the hot dog water out of it. I wanted to take the container back to the couch with me, but she wouldn’t let me. Harummph! All I know, is the next time the peeps have hot dogs, they’d better set one aside with my name on it. One that I don’t have to share!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yup, that’s right… it’s the big baby boy’s birthday. I wonder if I’ll get something extra tasty in my food bowl tonight? I certainly hope so!! And I really, really, really hope it’s a hot dog wiener!!!

Baby it’s cold outside
December 4th 2010 7:12 pm

Winter has finally decided to come to my part of the South. We’ve had snow flurries several time since my last diary entry. Of course the snow hasn’t stayed around more than just a few minutes. I personally like the cold, but my silly siblings seem to think cold weather is the worst possible thing to happen to them. Well, maybe having to take a bath would be worse to them, I’m not sure though. Tonight there’s a chance for some light snow. I’d love to wake up and find my yard coated in white. A white Christmas would be nice too come to think of it. I need to add that to my letter to Santa Paws.

I’m dreaming…

of a WHITE CHRISTMAS! Just like the ones I have never known. When I woke up this morning I discovered a wonderful dusting of white all over the ground and very crisp/chilling temperatures. I believe I should have been a sled dog since I love the cold & snow so much. Thus I am dreaming of a white Christmas this year. I know the chances of this is very slim, but a boy can always dream.

Sad news…
December 8th 2010 12:36 pm

Mom told me some really sad news yesterday. My big sister Abby is really sick and probably will be going to join my other sister Annie as an angel before too long. I LOVE my sister Abby so much! I loved her from the moment I was carried into the house and laid my eyes on her. She’s such a wonderful and loving dog. She taught me how to hunt squirrels, even though I know I got on her nerves so much with my eagerness. I hope she proves everyone wrong and sticks around for a lot longer.

Christmas Came Early!
December 12th 2010 9:26 pm

Yes, you read that correctly. Christmas came early this year! Remember me wishing for a white Christmas! Well it arrived today!! I’ve been doing mad dashes around my yard every chance I get. I LOVE the snow! It’s almost as nice as the pool or lake in the summer. Since Santa granted my wish (all be it a little ahead of schedule) I must have been a pretty good boy this year. We had 4” of snow on the ground when mom let me out just a few minutes ago and more was pouring from the sky! Woo Hoo!!

White Christmas
December 26th 2010 3:26 pm

Santa Paws is real! I asked for a white Christmas and I got one. WooHoo!! Too bad the peeps have been so busy running here & there. I haven’t had much of a chance to play in it. But the little time I’ve spent outside has been good with me. I enjoy lounging on the sofa, enjoying a nice warm house too!

Hopefully my brother will be up to eating our Santa Paws treats in the next few days. See, Ty had emergency surgery this past Monday night and he’s been on restricted diet and exercise ever since. But I think by mid-week he’ll be able to have a Christmas goodie.

Ty is getting better
December 30th 2010 1:54 pm

Just thought I’d let everyone know how Ty is doing. So far he’s doing really good. He’s supposed to get his staples & stitches out tomorrow morning. (He had emergency surgery for bloat.) Ty says tomorrow can’t get here fast enough for him. Once the stitches and such are out, mom won’t have to be watching Ty like a hawk. And the best thing? We should be able to start getting treats again. Not too many, but a few would really be nice. I’ve been like starving for cookies, cow ears, greenies, etc!
