Long time, No type…

I know, I know… it has been like furever since I last had an entry. I’ve had writers block or something like that going on. I’d think of something cool to write about but by the time I could get my typist cornered, well that cool thought had slipped away. So I figured this time I wouldn’t sweat coming up with a cool topic, I’d just tell you about what has been going on in my world.

First, rain… lots of rain. We had over 1 foot of rain last month alone. Thought I was going to have to evolve and grow gills or something silly like that. Warning like shown on this sign were quite common in my area.

Watch out for flooding!

Then Ugg had the boo-boo on his ear. Mom has no clue what happened to it, but the after effects were epic. The morning she took him into the vet’s office… well simply put, our house looked like a murder scene, our car looked like a murder scene and the vet’s lobby looked like a murder scene. That one little cut on the end of his ear was amazing in the amount of blood splatter it could produce. Every time Ugg would shake his head, blood flew every where! This incident earned him the dreaded “Cone of Shame”. He wore that thing for 3 weeks!! And he made the vet’s earn their money too. Every time they would unwrap his head, he’d shake it and the blood would start all over again.

Then after the rain, we had some freezing rain, then wrapped everything up with a little snow storm. We got about 2.5″ – 3″ of snow in about 2 hours. Of course, this being east Tennessee the snow was gone about 2 hours later. But it was really pretty while it lasted.

Winter has arrived

I hope every one had a Merry Christmas! Ours was good… we got some awesome goodies from our parents. AND we participated in 2 Secret Santa exchanges. We also received some amazing treats from those.

Winter has arrived in our part of the world. We went outside a little while ago and it was very cold (compared to what we have been experiencing) and a snow/sleet mix was falling. We might have an inch of snow by tomorrow morning. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but in my area, it will be enough to send people flocking to the grocery stores. Of course on our property near the mountains, we might see up to 4 inches there.

Since it’s going to be cold & yucky weather, I think us pups will just spend some time cuddled up on the living room furniture, snuggled up with a blanket or mom.

Beach Trip Update

Hi Everyone! As  I mentioned, I got to go to the beach last month! My pawrents, myself & Pixie spent a week on St George Island, Florida. Turns out I like the beach and ocean very much! Pixie was not as thrilled. She isn’t a fan of the water in the first place and the ocean winds were causing sand to blow up against her tummy & face. Guess there is a benefit to being a bigger dog after all.

Mom says she will think about going back next year – have to work on saving up for another vacation. I’m all for it! The worst thing about vacation is the car ride. I don’t mind riding, I can sleep 99% of the time, but I get bored that last 1%. AND I don’t like the rest stop areas… they freak me out! So many strange people, cars and those tractor trailers!

Any way, I thought you might like to see a few of my beach trip photos, so here you go! Hope you enjoy looking at them.

Packin’ my bags

Yes, you read that correctly… I’m busy packing my bags. The family & I are getting ready to go on VACATION! Woohoo!! Mom says I’m going to get to put my toes in the sand and see the ocean. She said the ocean is like a really big lake. I think I’m going to really like that! I can’t wait. I love car rides and it sounds like this one is going to be a really long one. Hope mom remembers to pack all my favorite toys and treats….

Can wait to put my toes in the sand!

Heatwave

The heat is on! We are experiencing record high temperatures. We set all time record highs Saturday and Sunday, 105F to be exact. While I enjoy spending time outside, this heat is too much for me. Even lounging is my swimming pool is not enjoyable (see earlier post for a photo of me & my pool). When you have to take a dip in your pool before 10AM, then it’s really hot!

So, me and my fellow pups have been spending the majority of the day inside. Air conditioning is a wonderful thing! I can lounge around to my heart’s content and stay nice and cool. Here’s a photo of me laying in my favorite chair, with one of favorite toys.

Stay cool my friends!

Oh Deer!

Last night I saw a stranger in my neighbor’s yard. A BIG stranger! I quivered and growled, warning the stranger to stay away from my house! I quivered and growled, telling the stranger that they’d best be moving along. I’m not sure if the stranger heeded my words though. It was about this time that mom told me to move out of the doorway so she could lock up for the night. I looked this morning and the stranger was nowhere to be seen. Hopefully they don’t return!

“Stranger Danger” — This is what the stranger looks like. They appeared about the same time last year, except they were creeping around in the daylight then. This stranger is in the same yard that the one last night was! (photo from last year)

Famous paw prints

I have some famous (or somewhat famous) paw prints to walk in. You see, my angel siblings have gained some national coverage over the years. My brother & sister pup angels, Ty, Abby & Annie, made it into USA Today online back in January of 2008. This particular photo was taken before I became part of the family. This photo is proudly displayed on the wall of our vet’s office. How many local hounds can say they’ve been see worldwide?

And then there is my angel kitty brother, Pip. Pip was featured in this past Sunday’s edition of “Life Illustrated” on the Today Show. All these famous siblings are giving me some huge paw prints to fill!

The Heat IS ON!

Well the cool snap, snapped and the heat is back on! We are supposed to be at about 90 degrees today. Wow, what a change from a little over a week ago. Mom has decided to turn our air conditioning on in the evenings since the house gets stuffy then. AND she put my swimming pool back out for me to enjoy. Of course she is a little miffed that I haven’t been in it very much since she refilled it. Who knows, maybe I’m in it when she isn’t looking.

Taking a Break from the Heat

Turn the heat back on!

It’s been unseasonably cool lately. The old timers say that this is “blackberry winter”. For some reason it always seems to turn cold when the blackberries are blooming, thus blackberry winter. That’s all well and good, but I enjoy the warmer weather. Especially when we had 80 degree days just a week ago and today we probably won’t be out of the 50s. Brrrr!!!

Since it has turn cold, my pool has been put back into storage. Bah! I’d still take a dip in it even if it is chilly. Mom doesn’t agree with this, so she takes my precious away. *pout*

Hmmm… what else has gone on? Mom came home yesterday smelling like other dogs. The nerve of that woman! Cheating on me again. But once she sat down in the floor and let me do my hoovering of smells… well turns out I recognized one of the hounds she was cheating on me with. It was my old pal Sasha! I guess it’s okay if she was cheating on me with one of my pals.

Lions & Tigers & Bears, OH MY!

Tuesday night I was in my normal sleeping spot on the bed. Mom was propped up reading the second “Hunger Games” book, thinking about going to bed. When all of a sudden I jumped off the bed & started barking and going nuts. Pixie joined in too. Mom figured we had just heard something hit the house (the wind was blowing fairly hard). She told us to settle down and go back to bed.

When we got up the next morning and watched the news, she started thinking about a story they showed. Maybe Pixie & I really did hear something strange. Maybe we heard an elephant!! Turns out the Ringling Bros Circus train was on the tracks that run along the back edge of our property and at a nearby crossing they had a minor accident. The news said there were animals on board the train (thankfully no one or animal was injured)! Mom’s thinking we heard the animals on the train after it stopped due to the accident. It is possible since us pups have superior hearing and the timing was right.

Here’s a link to the article and video about the circus train mishap:
