Adoption 2010 Contest
May 2nd 2010 6:10 pm

Mom has been slacking and has failed to type up my entry in a timely manner for the Adopt Contest. Since the weather isn’t so great this evening, she has finally found the time to help me out.

What does adoption mean to me? Well, to start with I wasn’t adopted from any place, other than the street. But if I had been adopted, my opinion would still be the same as it is now. Adoption means that I have some place safe to sleep and people to love me.

I was from a litter of puppies born to a feral dog. Some kindhearted people made it their mission to try to rescue the puppies and their mother. Let’s just say that catching a litter of wild puppies is something that was easier said than done. I came to live at my current (and forever home) as a foster pup along with a couple siblings.

We were terrified of humans, we had been living on the streets for about 2 months without any human contact. To stay safe we had to keep moving around, hiding from people. We had to learn to trust. I still have a problem trusting some people and the ones that I do trust, well it took them a while to earn it.

I am deeply devoted to my foster (and now permanent) mother. She took a lot of time to work with me and earn my trust. I will forever be grateful to people like her. People who take the time to heal the damanged soul of a scared puppy.

Adoption means that other puppies like me can have a chance to find a wonderful home. A home that can accept that puppy’s limitations and celebrate every little accomplishment!

New Video
May 7th 2010 11:52 am

It’s about time that lazy mom of mine got around to putting a new video on my page. This new video is about the daily battles between myself and that annoying little sister of mine, Pixie. What a pest!

Snuggle Time
May 20th 2010 10:38 am

Snuggle Time…. the time of morning I enjoy the most. It’s the 10 minutes or so before mom’s alarm clock goes off. This is the time of day that I get mom all to myself. I crawl up to the top of the bed and either share mom’s pillow or use the extra one on the bed. She will rub my side, rub & tug my ears. Oh! It is just pure heaven! I’ll stretch & yawn, lay my head over on her shoulder and ask her to do it all over again. It is wonderful. Then the alarm goes off! I bounce off the bed and wiggle & dance. It’s breakfast time!!

J-E-L-L-O
June 5th 2010 5:31 pm

I tried jello for the first time yesterday and YUMMY! Mom was eating some that was Strawberry/Kiwi flavored. I kept watching & staring at her as she was eating. Finally she got the hint, I WANTED SOME OF THAT! So she put a little spoon of it in the palm of her hand for me to try. She really didn’t think I would like it, but I surprised her. I will have to admit that it did seem a little odd in my mouth when I had my first bite, but after that it was pure nirvana. Now if she would just make some frosty paw treats for me I would be set for the summer, jello, frosty paws & watermelon!

Slacker
June 22nd 2010 3:41 pm

My mommy is a slacker! It’s been like forever since she last helped me out with a diary entry. Bah! Doesn’t she realize that I can’t type very well with my big feet? And if I try it on her laptop, well let’s just say she wouldn’t be pleased.

So what’s been going on in my world? Nothing much. Summer has shown up with a heat wave! We’ve been having temps in the mid to upper 90s and the heat index is usually 100 or higher. Sure am glad I have my personal pool. And I really like it when mom cleans it out & puts fresh water in it. Ahhh…. nothing like a cool dip in a pool on a hot day.

Catching up
July 20th 2010 9:48 am

It has been brought to my attention by a couple pals Browni, Natti & Fincastle that I’ve been slacking in the diary category. Well I want everyone to know that it isn’t my fault, blame my mother! My toes are too big for the keyboard, so I need her assistance with my diary writing, and she’s been neglecting me!

So here’s the run down of my summer so far: Napping, chasing chipmunks, chasing Pixie, taking a dip to cool off in my pool, sleeping on the living room furniture, sleeping on mom’s bed. Repeat all the previous.

I will say that I don’t care much for the storms that we had earlier this summer and they have been showing up again lately. Those loud booms coming from the clouds hurt my ears and they upset my sensitive soul!

Hmmm…. the rest of the family you ask? Well they are doing pretty good. Abby is starting to lose her hearing and she is “spacey”. Guess that happens to all of us when we get into those senior years.

Ty had surgery on his ear again for another hematoma. Poor fella, he seems pretty miserable this time around.

Pixie? Pixie is a pain my patootie! She is on 24/7! When is the puppy going to wear off that girl!

Oh! And mom has been spending large parts of the weekend gone. She leaves in the morning & comes back late in the afternoon/early evening. She is smelling of some strange things I tell you! I have smelled the following: turkey, raccoon & deer. She says she has been walking around on what will eventually be my new home & play ground. She says it has a big pond that we can talk walks to and I can swim in it! I can’t wait to see this place! She says I’ll have to wait until the weather cools down a little before I can go on that long of a car ride.

So that’s my summer so far. Nothing too spectacular, but still a wonderful doggie summer!!

D-i-e-t
March 9th 2010 5:10 pm

Come on pals! Can you spell?? Did you see what my entry title was??? That’s what mom & my vet think I need to be on!! Can you believe that?? All because I had put on about 5 pounds in a month. Bah! I’m just a growing boy, it’s all muscle and no pudge right? I don’t see a problem with being 82 pounds. But evidently mom thinks that 82 pounds is a little much for her to be lifting into the 4Runner. 😦

Can I help it if I like treats??? Is that such a crime??

A New Sister
March 22nd 2010 9:45 am

Bed Buddies

As most of you know, I lost my sister Annie earlier this month to either cancer or tumor of the brain. I’ve been devastated. Annie & I slept together every night. We played together everyday. Mom has tried spending extra time with me, giving me extra love, but… I was still depressed.

In Memory of Annie 2001 - 2010

Mom figured I needed a playmate. My other siblings are seniors, and just won’t play (Annie was a senior too, but she just didn’t realize it!). Mom started checking out the dogs at the local shelters, then she decided to look at Petfinder. Well, one day she saw a little dog that looked so much like Annie that it was eerie! Mom noticed that this pup was at a shelter in Bryson City, North Carolina. That is about 3.5 hours away from where we live. How it ended up in mom’s local search, she has no clue. But she suspects that Annie had a paw in it. The day mom saw this particular pup on Petfinder, was the same day that Annie’s ashes came back.

Well, yesterday mom & dad made the drive to Bryson City and brought back this pup (who is now named Pixie). I have a new sister! She’s about half the size of Annie, but sure has spunk! I think in time we will be the best of friends!!

Maybe she isn’t so bad
March 23rd 2010 9:32 am

This new sister idea… well I wasn’t so sure of it at first. You know Annie & I were really tight. But this new one… well she isn’t so bad after all. She likes chasing tennis balls, so do I. She likes treats, so do I. She likes chasing squirrels, so do I. She sounds the alarm, so do I. Hmmm… maybe we will get along after all. I put her through the romp paces yesterday evening, she was able to keep up pretty good (for a girl). I might just tell mom that I’ll keep her.

Pixie Pie - the new sister

I wanna check you for ticks
April 6th 2010 8:51 am

That’s what mom is telling me. Last night I was following her around in the house and she just happened to look down and YIKES! There was a tick crawling around on the back of my neck! This caused a mass tick checking line for me & my siblings. Mom decided to put our flea/tick medicine on a little earlier than planned(we had it on, but the tick protection had already wore off and the flea part was still working). We can’t have any nasty creepy crawlies on us on in the house!

Oh! I forgot to tell you that Patton’s Pool is currently open. We’ve been having warmer than normal temperatures this past week so mom figured I would enjoy the pool. Boy! Was she ever right!!! I love my swimming pool!! Pixie & I run, run, run around the yard playing chase, then I take a dip in the pool & cool off. Then let the running resume!!

Daily Diary Pick
April 12th 2010 9:22 am

YES!!! Mom opens her email today & there it is…. *drum roll please*…. I’m a Daily Diary Pick!! WooHoo! I’m always so happy when I get picked! It’s such a pawsome honor! Thank you Dogster & thank you pup pals for reading my diary! Mom has a lot of fun helping me with my typing skills. (My big ol’ paws don’t work so well on those tiny keys! BOL!!)

Exhausted
April 12th 2010 9:31 am

I had a busy weekend & boy was I ever exhausted! Saturday was a lot of yard work. I laid on the patio & watch mom pick up all the toys in the yard and then she mowed! Yikes! I didn’t realize that Pixie & I were leaving so many toys in the yard. No wonder our toy box on the deck was getting empty.

All that watching wore me out, so I took a dip in my pool and stretched out for a little nap. By this time, mom had moved around to the front yard, were we are not allowed without a leash I might add. Guess that’s a good idea since the front yard IS awfully close to the road.

When it cooled down a bit, mom went treasure hunting outside the fenced area. If she pokes around enough, she can usually find some pretty neat things. This time she came up with a few old bottles, claims she can use them for vases. *shrug* whatever.

During this time, Pixie & I amused ourselves with a big game of chase. Even goof old Ty came down and joined in for a bit. Mom’s guessing that Pixie & I ran non-stop for at least an hour. Boy! We sure were ready for bed when mom let us in for the night! I don’t remember being that exhausted in a long time!

Blustery Day
April 26th 2010 12:09 pm

I felt rather like Winnie the Pooh yesterday! It was very blustery/windy…. I’ve decided that I don’t like big winds very much. The wind made my tail uncurl and I hide out in a dog house. Mom was surprised to see me in the dog house, I NEVER go in a dog house. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures, thus a dog house was reasonable protection from the wind. Thank dogness that the winds have died down today.

January – February 2010

New Year, new foster
January 1st 2010 4:30 pm

It’s a new year and now we have a new foster. This one is called Jovi. Mom isn’t crazy about the name, says he doesn’t look anything like a Jovi. But that’s the name he answers to, so Jovi I guess it is.

Right now he’s cozied up in my big ol’ crate. (the one I don’t use anymore since I’m a big boy now) And he’s chewing on my nylabone! What’s up with that?? Well, I guess I can share a few of my things.

Jovi was found on the interstate. He had been hit by a car, a nice person stopped, picked him up and got him hooked up with a rescue. He had a broken leg, broken pelvis and a severely damaged hip joint. Needless to say, Jovi is now a 3-legged dog. He’s only been one for two weeks, but he gets along just fine!

Jovi

What I don’t like
January 9th 2010 9:14 am

I don’t like it when mom is upset or sad. She had a bad case of the holiday blues and I think it’s still lingering around a bit. She couldn’t sleep last night. She laid in bed for an hour, got up and watched tv for a while. She got sleepy, went back to bed but she was wide awake again. This just upset mom more, not to mention that it upsets me! I was ready to sleep and every time I’d get comfy on the bed, she would move to the couch. Every time I got comfy on the couch, she would move back to the bed. GRRR!

But the plus side in my opinion, when she feels like this, she doesn’t eat much. She will fix something and maybe eat half of it before she feels sick to her stomach. Hello.. that food can’t go to waste so it ends up in my breakfast or dinner bowl.

More stuff I don’t like
January 9th 2010 5:20 pm

I don’t like the current weather we are experiencing. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the snow, but I don’t like the fact that mom won’t let me stay outside to play all day. She says it is too cold for me for me to stay out for a long time. She says she is compromising by allowing me multiple 15 minute play sessions per day. These are OK, but still… I’d rather be doing it on my own time.

I don’t like it when mom refuses to give me more kibble. Even after I give her the super cute goof ear look. Mom thinks I might be getting a little pudgy from the “extra” snacks that I’ve been getting. harumph… I think I look just fine! But I’ll keep trying to get that extra kibble. Sooner or later she will have a weak moment and I will win the battle!

Finally!
January 18th 2010 9:16 pm

The weather has finally changed. We are experiencing a nice January thaw. Temps have been in the mid to upper 50s. I am very pleased! This means I can spend my days in the yard chasing squirrels and barking at the mailman.

This also means that I can start working on getting my hot body back. The cold weather and lack of activity inside has led to a tiny weight gain. Weight gain equal little or no treats! I’m hoping the pudge comes off as quickly as it went on.

The foster pup is trying to help me burn it off. For a dog with only 3 legs, that little fellow sure can run fast. He’s been keeping me company in the yard the past couple days. He sure isn’t happy to go back in his crate at night. I keep telling him if he would refrain from pottying in the house, mom might be willing to let him stay out at night. But does he listen to me? Nope, so sorry buddy, in the crate you sleep.

My namesakes quote of the day…
January 19th 2010 2:21 pm

As some of you may know, I am named after General Patton. So here’s my Patton quote of the day:

“Accept challenges, so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory.”
– George S. Patton

I’ll accept the challenge! Now where’s the victory??

Snow! We actually have snow!!
January 30th 2010 12:46 pm

Yes dear pals… you read the title correct. We have snow here in the good ol’ South. We get the occasional dusting of snow from time to time, not several inches is rare. This time we have about 4” of snow on the ground. I’ve been having fun sticking my nose down in the snow and biting at the snow. That’s great fun! What is even more fun is making mad dashes around the yard! I love feeling the cold fluffy stuff flying around me. Mom has been outside with me a few times, but she says it’s just too cold for her right now. Bah! What a wuss!!

Running in the snow!

Oh What a Night
February 1st 2010 9:21 pm

Yes indeed, it has been a wonderful night in the world of Patton. First of all, mom gets home from work and decides to clear the snow & ice from the patio. Woohoo! Mom is outside with ME!!

While she’s busy moving the heavy muck, I try to entertain her by making fast mad dashes all over the yard. I tried to write a message in the snow with my paw prints, but I discovered that I don’t really know how to write. I’ll just have to get my message through to mom in a different way.

After the mad dashes, I had worked up an appetite. Mom served us a nice bowl of kibble topped off with a good dollop of tasty canned food. Umm Umm Good!

Then mom goes into the bedroom to do a little work. I come in to supervise. (I don’t let mom out of my sight very often if I can help it.) She seeing me sitting there so sweet. Ahhh…. so she sits down with me and gives me a hug. Well that was nice. So I decide to wiggle a little closer & lay down. I have one leg of mine over hers and one leg of mine under hers. I put my little head on top of that leg. Mom giggles and says I’m silly. So she’s gonna be silly too. Says she may never have a human kid, so she will have to practice singing the kiddie songs on me. I have to say I’m particularly fond of the Pease Porridge song & I’m a Little Tea Pot song. **sigh**

Super Bowl
February 7th 2010 3:01 pm

Today is the Super Bowl. I say big woop de doo. The only thing I see good going on is the big pot of beef stew. I will say that it has my nose doing extra sniffs. Mom doesn’t have any place to go today to watch the game, no parties or anything this year. So I guess it will be a mom & pups night. She says she’ll sort of watch the game just for the commercials.

And I can’t believe she took a big bowl of that stew over to the neighbor’s house. I mean, I could have eaten it for her. She says I have to be nice & share. She’s working on her positive thinking & good karma stuff. Harumfffth! I guess if mom says I have to share, then I’ll share. She did mention that I might get a half time greenie treat after all!

Thank you!!!
February 9th 2010 8:28 am

Wow! Wow! Oh Wow!!! I’m one of the Daily Diary Picks today! I’d like to thank Dogster for this honor. And I want also thank my wonderful pals who enjoy reading about my adventures & life!! This is soooo Great!!

Hmmm… now what can I tell you about that I’ve been up to lately? Truthfully not too much. I’ve been thinking that it’s about bath time. I’ve developed a definite eau d’ doggie smell according to mom. Well, hello! I’ve been trying to drop the hint. Why else am I sticking my head into the shower when she’s in there? I’m saying, “Hey, I stink! How about spraying some of the soap & water my way!” BOL! Sometimes mom is a little slow on the up take, but I think she has it figure out now.

I’m famous!
February 12th 2010 2:50 pm

My buddy Wyoming just informed me that I am experiencing my 15 minutes of fame. Dogster is using my “goofy ear” photo to illustrate an article. Check it out!

Déjà vu
February 17th 2010 9:06 am

The past couple days, mom says I’ve been making her experience Déjà vu at bed time. Normally I sleep on the bottom left corner of the bed, but lately I’ve sensed the that mom has been feeling blue. So I moved my big rump up to the top of the bed. This means I can sleep with my head propped up on the pillow that mom isn’t using.

I get all comfy and warm, settled in for the night. Before long I start to snore. (Mom swears that I snore, but I think she’s lying to me. I couldn’t be snoring!) Anyhoo… my snores make mom giggle. She says it’s Déjà vu. What ever that is!? *shrug* She tries to explain to me that for years, someone else used to sleep in that spot and he did the exact same type of snoring! So while my snores irritate mom, they kind of comfort her at the same time. She says that sometime she misses that snoring. Glad I could be of help mom! BOL!!

Fun Run!
February 19th 2010 9:26 am

Mom came outside & ran with me for a while last night. She doesn’t do this very often, says it’s too much like work. She’d rather throw toys and let ME run & get them. I don’t mind doing this, but… it is much more fun when she joins me.

Today is supposed to be a nice & sunny day. Right now mom is working, BUT she’s thinking about seeing if she can take half the day off. If she is able to do that, she says she will load me up in the Runner & go to the lake. Then we can jog around the trails there. That sounds like a good plan to me. Keep your paws crossed that mom can get off early!

Pawsome Day
February 19th 2010 4:15 pm

Today was pawsome! Mom got off work early, grabbed a bite to eat while driving so she didn’t waste any time. She got home, changed clothes, pulled essential items from her purse & told me it was time for me to get dressed! That means put my harness on!! Yippee!!

She helps me load into the 4Runner & off to the lake we go. Mom and I put in about 4 miles walking at the lake. It was pawsome!

I got to take a little dip in the lake (yup, I waded out I snorkeled a little then laid down). Saw lots of birds, ducks, geese, sea gulls (what are sea gulls doing in TN??), and even a heron. I had fun chasing the geese. Mom said she would have let me really go after them if it was safer (parts of the trail run along side a busy road). Mom is pretty sure I would run & splash into the water right behind those big goofy birds. BOL!!

I had so much fun… hope mom takes time off from work again soon!

November – December 2009

Christmas time’s a coming!
November 5th 2009 11:13 am

Mom told me that she’s signed all us pups up for the Secret Santa Paws exchange again this year! WooHoo! I can’t wait… I LOVE Santa Paws! He sends these pawsome gifts through the mail and the arrive right on my door step. I have so much fun sniffing them, trying to figure out what is in them. If I had hands, then I’d probably be shaking them too. Mom is telling me not to get too excited yet, there’s still a little over a month before any gift would arrive. But I don’t care! I’m busy practicing my Christmas dance!!

I’ve been tagged!
November 8th 2009 12:03 pm

I’ve been tagged by Kaiden. The Question was:

What is the naughtiest thing you been caught (or NOT?!) doing? I’ve done some naughty things, but by far the naughtiest has to be chewing the corner off mom’s end table and I also chewed up the digital indoor/outdoor thermometer receiver that same night! BOL! Mom wasn’t happy!!

Now i need to tell 7 things about me!
1. My favorite sibling is Abby. I’ve loved her from the moment I first laid eyes on her.
2.I love to go swimming.
3.I love cuddling with my mommy.
4. I love eating pig ears and Greenies. I take my time & savor them.
5. I sometimes snore!
6. I howl (also known as singing) when I hear sirens.
7. I am spoiled rotten.

Happy Birthday to Me!!
November 22nd 2009 4:45 pm

Yup, that’s right… today is MY birthday! WooHoo! It’s party time in the house. I’ve had treats, chased squirrels, showed mom my pearly whites. So far it’s been a great day. I even brought some firewood logs up to the deck door. Mom says too bad we don’t have a fireplace inside. So she has to take the logs back down to the patio where the outdoor fireplace is. Phooey. The only thing that would make today better would be sunshine and a car ride. Since it is raining, I doubt the sunshine will happen. And mom seems pretty happy sitting on the couch with me, so I doubt the car ride will happen either.

Thank you!
November 23rd 2009 9:58 am

I’m sending a warm Thank you to all my pals! Thanks for the wonderful birthday comments and rosettes! They make my page look so pretty. They make mom smile & when that I happens, I get extra goodies!!

Mistletoe Tag
December 5th 2009 9:30 pm

I’ve been tagged by my Canadian friend Abby!

It’s a tag with a difference.

Instead of answering questions all you have to do in this tag game is to spread a little love around and send some mistletoe kisses to other pups.
Pass it on …..

Hurry Up!
December 15th 2009 12:15 pm

I’m still waiting on my Secret Santa Paw’s gift. It’s supposed to be on it’s way. Hope it hurries up! I’m supposed to open it on Sunday! In the time being, I’m making do with my new stuffy. Mom bought it to replace my very first toy. It’s a new Diddle Dee toy. My old one was a cool orange snake that sang the Diddle Dee tune. Well, it’s finally dying and sound pathetic. So mom spotted a blue shark Diddle Dee at the feed store. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but she gave it. When she gave it to me, she was shaking her head, saying to herself that she really didn’t understand why she was giving that toy. The old one drove her insane with it’s loud singing. And as soon as it stops singing, I chomp it to make it start singing again. Guess she must really love me, or she feels that she needs to be punished for some reason!

Slacker!
September 1st 2009 9:56 am

Yes that’s right, my mom is a slacker! I haven’t been having regular diary updates. Hurummff! And I believe it’s all because of my sick siblings. Annie has a ouchie on her side and Ty had surgery on his ear about a week ago. They are taking up all her spare time. So I thought to myself… “Self, what can you do to get more attention?” Well I figure it out… I needed to get hurt too!!

I have a spot on my tummy that I’ve been licking for a few days now. It looks a little red, not painful, but it doesn’t look pretty either. Plus I managed to get a little nick on my leggie. Mom spotted that scab yesterday. She’s been putting medicine on my tummy to help make it feel better. And I get a couple of benedryls in a pill pocket to help with any allergies.

I think the sibs are onto something with the injuries. Injuries = special treatment!

Ty's ear - surgery to repair a hematoma

What’s up?
September 15th 2009 11:31 am

Thought I’d take a minute and see what’s up with all my pals. I’ve been out of the loop for a while, my typist is slacking on her job.

I’ve acquired a new foster-brother. His name is Magic and he is a husky/german shep mix. VERY high energy dog. We have had lots of fun wrestling, running and romping. This has been put to a temporary halt due to the fact he had the big “snip” late last week. I have to admit that I am enjoying the break… he was about to play me to death. BOL!

Annie’s boo-boo is almost completely healed. It’s taken longer than mom thought it would, so I guess it was a more serious wound than was originally thought. Or maybe she isn’t healing as fast since she is getting older. BUT she can still put me in my place!!

Ty’s ouchie ear is healed and no longer “buttoned” to the top of his head. I’m glad he’s better, means that I can pick on him again. I know he must be glad, bet it’s terrible to have your ear stuck to the top of your head 24/7.

Abby is doing fine too. No more nose or back problems for now.

This is Magic

The Noun Hound
September 18th 2009 12:44 pm

I played this game on my pal Wyoming’s diary and was one of the winners, so now it is my turn!

I give you 4 clues to an animal, place or thing and you pawmail me with your answer – don’t post it on here. The first 5 winners will get a rosette from me!

Here are the clues:

1) This mammal lays eggs instead of giving birth to live young.
2) When first discovered by Europeans in 1798, it was believed to be a fraud.
3) It is one of the few venomous mammals.
4) Milk for it’s young is released through pores in the skin. The milk will pool in grooves on the mother’s abdomen, allowing the young to lap it up.

Ok, pups! There are the clues! Put on your thinking caps and have fun!

Noun Hound – answer session
September 25th 2009 9:15 am

It’s been a week since I posted my noun hound clues. So far I’ve had 3 correct answers. I will now announce what the correct answer was. Drum Roll please….. The correct answer to my noun hound clues was: Platypus!!

Congrats to these pals for their correct answers:

Morning Breath
October 28th 2009 9:33 am

Mom says I have morning breath. What’s that & how can that be?? I think my breath is the same no matter what time of day it is… unless I just finished a cow hoof or something. In that case, I will admit my breath is less than fresh.

Anyway, I’ve decided that I want to sleep at the top of the bed with Mom. Now this is normally my sister Annie’s spot, but ya snooze, ya lose. I’ve made it to bed before she has, so I get to claim my spot. I enjoy the top of the bed. I can snuggle up to Mom and I get to have my own pillow! How sweet is that??

Anyhoo… the pillow is where the morning breath comes into play. I sleep on my pillow, but at some point during the night I end up sharing Mom’s pillow. When she wakes up, my snout is almost touching her nose. Then I proceed to do a BIG yawn, right in her face! BOL!! I think it’s funny, but she pushes my nose away and tells me I have morning breath. Should I be offended??

What not to do…
October 30th 2009 5:01 pm

Here’s a lesson on what not to do when Mom is trying to sleep in. We were all very happy to have an extra sleep in day this week, but seems like I made a little mistake in manners. Evidently there are certain things a pup shouldn’t do. And some how I think I figured out what might be high up on that list.

A pup should not sit up in bed and howl. I did… and mom wasn’t happy about it. Seems like that is a rude way to wake up a human. Really, it wasn’t my fault. Blame it on Ty… he’s the one who taught me to howl at sirens. And there was a siren blaring somewhere within my hearing range. Once I woke mom up, she could hear it in the distance. I’m guess having a reason to howl, doesn’t excuse the behavior. Mom got up, grumbling the whole time about never getting to have a relaxing day.

So, I guess I will try to refrain from howling in bed in the future!

Dear Mr. Mailman
June 2nd 2009 9:05 am

Dear Mr. Mailman,

Thanks a lot for telling mom about our little game. Now she knows about it and it isn’t quite as fun as it used to be. It was our little secret, even the neighbor hadn’t said anything to mom about it… so all was cool. Then on Saturday, you see mom working on the carport and decide to stop and chat instead of dropping the mail & going on your way. YOU told her about our game!!! You told her about how you keep waiting on my Rose of Sharon tree to fall. YOU told her about how I chew, yank and bite on the tree as you talk to me when you are walking through the side yard. YOU laughed about how I bark, growl and snarl like a real bad boy! YOU told mom about how I’m pulling on her rose trellis and how you figured I would tear it down eventually. How could you go and spoil my fun like that?? I thought we were guy buddies… you know the type who act like they are really tough when they are around other guys? Geez….

Not so sure about this..
June 29th 2009 9:02 am

I’m not so sure about this new foster pup that is living with me. “He” arrived yesterday afternoon. AND he thinks just because his name is “Boss” that it makes him the boss of my home. Personally I don’t think so! He tried to bite me a couple of times last night. Thank dogness mom was there (she wasn’t leaving us unsupervised since she doesn’t know this dog’s history). She promptly grabbed the foster’s collar and moved him away from me. He spent the night in his crate. I think he may have settled down a little now…. at least he didn’t try to attack me when mom let us out this morning to do our business.

In case you are wondering, Boss is a white boxer with faint black spots. He’s goofy… but I still don’t care very much for him. Mom promises me that this is a short-term foster, just long enough for his owner to find a new apartment or a new home for Boss. I guess I can deal with that… since it’s only for a few weeks.

"Boss" the foster boxer

Strange yet Familiar
July 3rd 2009 5:26 pm

Mom came home today and she smelled strange, yet familiar at the same time. I had to do a complete scan of her… I’d sniff and my tail would wiggle a tiny bit. Then I’d sniff more and it would really WAG!! Mom was amused by this. She thinks the big wags was when I came across the smell of an old friend.

Mom went to visit my former foster-sister (and now cousin) Sasha today. While Sasha lived with us, we were the best of buddies. We had tons of fun playing and wrestling. Mom’s sister finally decided that her dog, Misty, needed a playmate, so Sasha went to live with her.

After sniffing Sasha’s scent on mom, I think she needs to take me the next time she goes to visit!! What do you guys think???

Something new
July 7th 2009 9:09 am

I tried something new last night, or at least I think it’s new… I don’t remember having it before. *scratches head* No, I’m pretty sure I’ve never had it before. It’s this wonderful, cool, sweet treat called “watermelon”! It was pawsome!! Mom was eating some and I was observing. I got curious and slid closer to her plate. Hmmm…. interesting. So I acted all cute and she gave me a bite. Yummy! I likes this stuff!

I guess my brother Ty likes it too. He was busy drooling all over the floor. He like the green part too, I think that’s called the rind. I don’t care too much for that part, I prefer the red. But if you want to see Ty eating watermelon, he has a couple videos on his page. They are about a year old, but perfect for a summer time treat!

Drats!
July 15th 2009 9:38 am

Mom let us pups out early this morning to do our business and to enjoy the cool morning air. (She went back to bed.) Well, when mom gets up this morning, she lets us back inside for our breakfast and some loving. In a short amount of time, I insist that I must go back outside. This isn’t too odd since I really like being outdoors. I dart out the door and grab what mom assumes is a toy off my blankie on the deck. Upon close inspection, mom realizes that the “toy” isn’t the de-stuffed Canada goose that I normally drag around. The “toy” is a dead raccoon!!! Mom is very started by this and concerned too.

I promptly run off the deck and dash around the yard. Proudly carrying my prize. Mom coaxed me back to the deck and put her hand on my collar and said “Drop it”. So I spit it out and mom bagged it up. Bummer. I’ll never tell mom where I got that marvelous toy!

Setting my sights on something bigger
July 20th 2009 10:24 am

I let mom know yesterday morning that I’ve set my sights on something bigger. I’ve caught a squirrel, a rabbit and even a raccoon. Now I’m setting my sights on something bigger. I spied it outside my fence yesterday, right down at the edge of the woods. It was nibbling the honeysuckle that is growing on the fence. I have my sights set on a DEER!!

He was a big one too! Had a big hat on his head with prongs coming out of it. Mom told me that was called “antlers” and the he was a 6-point buck. Bah… I don’t care for those fancy terms, all I know is that I want to catch it.

Now… how do I lure it into the yard???…..

Ruff Nite
August 7th 2009 9:38 am

When mom got home from work yesterday, she noticed that I was scratching… a lot! Then she noticed that I had welts or hives on my sides. She gave me a Benadryl and then I had a bath. That seemed to help– for a while. Then the itchies came back! Even worse than before. Mom was out of Benadryl so she called the neighbor and he had one left, mom took it and said I would thank him for it. That one didn’t work as good as the first one. I was very uncomfortable. Mom put me in the bathtub again, this time with different shampoo. That helped for about 30 minutes, then I was back scratching again. I think mom might have gotten a few hours of sleep last night between all of my tossing & turning. Finally around 4:30 this morning, the itchies started going away. I hopped back up on mom’s bed, snuggled up beside her and laid my head on her arm. That’s were I spent the rest of my night.

This morning mom loaded me up and brought me to work with her. She wants to keep an eye on me in case the itchies come back. AND she might take me to the dog park on her lunch hour!!

Bummer
August 7th 2009 6:45 pm

I did NOT get to go to the dog park today. My hives came back while I was with mom at work. 😦

So she called the vet and had a lengthy chat with him on the phone. Then I was loaded up and taken back home. Then I had medicine given to me. But I didn’t care too much since it was hidden inside a pill pocket.

We are hoping that this was all started by an insect bite and the Benadryl & steroids will clear up the itchy hives. Mom’s trying the vet’s suggested route first. If I’m still having this problem on Monday… well it’s a vet trip for me 😦 AND I DON’T WANNA GO TO THE VET!!

Feeling less itchy
August 11th 2009 6:33 pm

My itchies are slowly fading away. Mom is still giving me some Benadryl, but only when she sees me itching and not stopping. That translates into a very small dose 🙂

I guess you can read my sister Annie’s diary and hear all about the weekend bath. I didn’t have to have one since I had two on Thursday night. I decided the best thing to do would be to show my siblings some water support. While they were being scrubbed & hosed down, I was observing from the warm water comfort of my swimming pool!! I don’t think they appreciated me laughing at them!

The Protector
April 15th 2009 11:18 am

The Protector… that would be me. See, mom got sick Monday night, early Tuesday morning. I’ve never saw my mom act like that. She was very sick, so I took it upon myself to be her local protector. When she was being sick in the bathroom, I sat beside her. When she crawled back in bed, I crawled in bed with her. When she tried to lay on the couch, I did the same. I kept my head on her as much as possible and when I couldn’t do that, I touched her with my paw. And let me tell you, being a protector is really hard work! Especially when you are a young pup who is just bursting with energy!! I’m glad to report that mom is feeling much better today than she was yesterday. This means that I don’t have to keep as close an eye on her and I can go outside and play some 🙂

Ah Cwap!
April 20th 2009 10:28 am

Saturday was a wonderful, warm & sunny day! And to make things even better, it was opening day of “Patton’s Pool”! As soon as mom dragged it out from under the deck, I was ready. Before it even had water in it, I was jumping in. And when it finally had water in it… ah heaven! But then the weather had to go changing on me 😦

Yesterday it rained, looks like rain today too. What good is a pool in the rain? And the 80* temperature on Saturday was perfect pool weather. Now it’s in the upper 50s. Cwap…. But mom promises me that the warm weather will be back by the weekend 🙂

Score 1 for Patton!
April 23rd 2009 9:23 am

You’ll never guess what I caught!!! After almost a year of trying…. I was finally successful at catching a squirrel. Mom didn’t know at first cause I left it outside on my blankie. While she was getting my dinner ready, I kept bouncing around the door wanting back outside. So she let me out and noticed that I snatched something up off of my blankie and dashed out into the yard with it. Mom followed in “hot pursuit” because she had caught a glimpse of little feet sticking out of my mouth. She was finally able to coax me back over to her and get me to drop my prize. It was a slobber/drool coated deceased squirrel who was minus a tail. She can only guess that I had eaten the tail, but I’ll never tell her! I do have to give credit to my big sister, Abby, she’s was an expert squirrel catcher in her younger days and she has been giving me lessons!

Warm weather!
April 27th 2009 12:48 am

Oh yes!! The weather has warmed up and we have temperatures in the high 80s. Perfect for taking little dips in my Patton pool. Mom was kind enough to get it out from under the deck last weekend and fill it up for me. But I only had one nice day for pool time then. My how things change in just a week! I’ve been using it every day since this past Friday. Yipppeeee!!! Splish-n-slash! I certainly know how to be a cool dog on a hot day…now I just need to convince my siblings to join me. Hmmmm…..

Enjoying my pool

Another one bites the dust….
April 30th 2009 9:53 am

Yes indeed… another one bite the dust yesterday. And no, I’m not talking about another squirrel. When mom got home from work yesterday, she let us in from the yard. The first thing she noticed was my collar laying on the deck landing. Then it sunk in… not ANOTHER one!! See, in all her years as a dog owner (and she’s had dogs since she was a wee one) she has never had a dog who can go through collars like I can.

At least she was pleased to see that this collar “broke away” like it was designed to. I like to lay on the landing of the deck and survey my kingdom. Mom is guessing at some point I wiggled just right and my ID & registration tags got stuck between two boards. Ugh! I was stuck good if the effort it took mom to free the tags was any indication. She’s so happy that I was able to free myself and not get hurt. I will tell you that it made me mad being stuck and I blamed that collar for it too! So I chewed the collar up after it broke apart. Now mom has to buy me a new one. She is sold on these collars for a rough & tumble pup like me! This is the second time this type of collar could have saved my life and I’m guessing my life must be worth a lot cause mom keeps getting me these safety collars (even though they are pretty pricey!).

Little Bunny
May 8th 2009 9:53 am

Mom has been debating whether she would let me write about my latest capture, and she finally said I could! First of all, let me tell you I got in trouble for this one, mom wasn’t happy with me one little bit!

Wednesday night was just like any other night. Eat my kibble, lay around the house, play with toys and go out for potty breaks. Well, one particular potty break turned into an adventure for me. I have this little route or routine I follow when I go out. I shoot off the deck, go to the corner of the yard and make a lap along the fence line. It was dark outside and mom had turned on a flood light so she could keep track of were we were. About that time, mom noticed a little bunny in the middle of the yard. She was concerned about the bunny, but thought it would run away as soon as it heard us pups, and figured it would have enough time since I always do the same routine.

I’m guessing this bunny wasn’t as smart as the normal yard bunnies. It didn’t run away as soon as we hit the yard. It sat there and the longer it sat there, the more worried mom got. I got halfway through my run and then I noticed the bunny. The chase was on! It ran towards the opposite fence, but didn’t make it through the chain link. Then it headed back towards mom, still didn’t make it through the fence. But this time I caught it. Mom was horrified!!! She was screaming at me to “leave it” meaning I should drop it. How unfair is that? I caught it fair and square! But in the end, I did drop the bunny. Mom escorted me back inside the house. I wasn’t happy about this… I wanted to look for the bunny. She told me in no uncertain terms that I was NOT going to be looking for the bunny, she was. So off she goes with two flashlights. First she checked our yard… no bunny, then she checked the neighbor’s yard, still no bunny. She looked for about 30 minutes and never found the bunny. She’s hoping that I just scared the bunny and didn’t really hurt it.

I knew my mom was mad about what I had done. I stayed out of her way the rest of the evening. I thought I was really going to be in the doghouse over this. But when she went to bed, she called me and said I could sleep on the end of her bed. I knew then that she wasn’t really mad at me anymore.

Monsters!
January 6th 2009 11:37 am

Somebody call Ghostbusters! Quick!! I think my house has monsters!! And I think they live in that tiny room just off the hallway. Some very strange thumping noise come from there. And when they start, mom runs in there to quiet it down. She must be feeding them or something!

And my brother Ty…. I think he’s pals with a different monster! We came inside last night after a potty break. Somehow I managed to stay mostly dry, but Ty was a wet, stinky dog. So out comes this long snake looking monster. Ty sits down and lets it hum and blow hot air all over him! I think he really liked it! It tried to nibble on my toes but I didn’t want any part of that! I backed up, growled and barked at it. I showed it who was Boss!! It didn’t try to bother me again.

Copy Cat
January 9th 2009 11:46 am

Mom says I must be a copy cat. I hurt my toe again…. so off to the vet I go this morning. Got some antibiotics (have to copy my sis on meds) and got my annual shots too. Mom figured she might save a few dollars by combining visits. And she was right.

Refreshing
January 15th 2009 4:59 pm

I have a new way to get going in the mornings. It’s refreshing and invigorating too! Mom says it would probably freak someone out. Any whooo, I’ve decided that I like a morning shower. Not a full soaking shower, just a nice spray on my face. See, while mom is taking her shower in the mornings, I like to root around and get my head under the shower curtain, then the nice warm water will hit me in the face. It’s wonderful, sometimes I have to come back a few more times just because I like it so much. Then I’m ready to go outside for some squirrel chasing. Mom claims I’m going to “catch your death of a cold”. Nah, I’m just trying to catch a squirrel

Yuck!
January 28th 2009 8:34 am

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck!! Mom said I’ve been scratching too much. She’s tried different foods, nothing seemed to make a difference. I’ve had benedryl’s in pill pockets, they didn’t make much of a difference. So… last night she decided it was close enough to time for me to have another dose of my flea medicine. She hasn’t seen any fleas on me during our snuggle time, but she figured it was worth a shot. So out of the doggie medicine cabinet came a tube of Frontline. I’m captured, held still and have nasty smelling stuff poured on my skin (and it was cold!). YUCK!! I promptly started brushing up against the furniture, trying to rub it off. I jumped in the chair and rolled all over the cover. But it was all to no avail…. the yucky stuff was permanently stuck to me. Yuck..

Bonanza
January 30th 2009 10:29 am

Bonanza… that’s the theme song that was running through mom’s head this morning while Annie and I were playing. Stampede to one end of the house, jump on mom’s bed, stampede back down the hallway, snarl, growl, bark… dash off again! Oh, it was so much fun!! We were feeling frisky and being wild children. The other pups were being lazy– old fuddy duddies they are. Don’t know what they are missing, a good romp in the morning is just what is needed to get the blood flowing!

Wild Child
February 13th 2009 11:35 am

The weather has been warm the past few day. And I have turned into a wild child! Mad puppy dashes from one end of the house to the other! Mad puppy dashes all over the yard! Frenzied blanket shredding on the deck! Toy destruction!! Oh!! It’s so much fun to be a wild child!!

What a Wild Child looks like

OOOwwww
March 4th 2009 8:58 am

There I was, just doing my normal bouncing/chasing mom bit… and then it happened. KaBammm!!! I took a header into the antique sewing machine! That thing is heavy and doesn’t slide around like the love seat does. 😦 I stopped for a second and continued to run down the hallway and hop up on mom’s bed. Of course she comes in right behind me and checks my noggin out. Of course she doesn’t find anything wrong… I’m a tough guy!! 🙂 But I won’t complain about all the extra hugs and kisses I got (I’m not that tough after all!)

Springtime Snow?
March 18th 2009 10:38 am

Springtime snow…. well not exactly. Considering the snow was green and fluffy, I don’t think it counts. But if green snow if your thing, then I had you covered this weekend. Mom put a new dog bed out on the deck for us. A nice round fluffy bed. Ty really enjoyed sleeping on it. An as soon as he got his big butt off of it, I claimed it for my own. A little nibble here, a big tug & rip there. Soon the bed was big enough for all four of us to share! And there was even enough left over to help decorate the yard! I was sooo proud of my hard work. Then *she* looked outside. *She* was not happy with my hard work. Some people just don’t appreciate fine works of art. Bah! Out comes a big black trash bad and in goes my piece d’ rip-art. Phooey! I hope the trash men appreciate a fine work of art.

The Sweet and the Not so Sweet
March 21st 2009 8:21 am

The Sweet is the fact that I’m a Dogster Diary pick again today!!! I’m second from the top!! One more step and I will complete my New Years Resolution to be THE DIARY PICK OF THE DAY.

And now the not so sweet…. I have to go to the vet today 😦
Turns out that I’ve managed to cut my foot again and I won’t leave it alone. Mom tried putting a bandage on it last night and I promptly put my whole foot in my mouth and tried to chew it off. So now it’s off to the vet for some antibiotics.

Thanks Dogster for making me a diary pick!!

Wash in cold water
March 23rd 2009 4:31 pm

“Wash in Cold Water” Isn’t that the care instructions that dark clothing carries?? Wouldn’t you assume that the same care instructions would apply to a darker colored dog? I would think so, but evidently mom doesn’t think so.

Sunday afternoon marked my first bath of the Spring season. Mom bought a special attachment for the shower that makes it easier for her to bathe us. I was first in line. Mom got the water temperature to a nice comfortable warm. I was put into the tub and the spray hit me. Immediately the water running off of me turned a brownish red!! Yikes!! Mom was washing all my color off… I was FADING! Mom was shocked by how much color was coming off with just warm water. I tried to tell her “WASH IN COLD WATER” to avoid fading. HA HA HA!

I had worked hard for weeks to get just the right amount of dirt in my coat. *Sigh* Now I’m going to have to start all over. But I have to admit, I did enjoy the massage & spa treatment 😉

December 2008

Presents
December 9th 2008 11:15 am

I think I’m starting to understand the concept of a present. A present is something that is yours, but you can’t have until someone says you can. I think this is very unfair. Mom says I have some presents under the tree. I know which ones they are… I can SMELL them!! And they smell very yummy. It’s pure torture I tell you, having to be good everyday. I can imagine myself sneaking under the tree, tearing off the wrapping paper (I’ve very good at shredding paper), and helping myself to those excellent smelling presents. The only thing stopping me is the fact that Santa Paws is watching me. Mom told me so. I don’t know who this Santa Paws is, but he must be one powerful pup to convince me to leave the presents alone.

Ouchie!
December 11th 2008 9:16 am

I have an ouchie. Last night before mom went to bed she noticed some spots on the bathroom tile. When she got up this morning, she noticed some of the same spots on the bed cover. Then the search begins… she know it has to be me or Annie (we are the only ones who sleep on the bed with her). And she starts with me since the spots are in the area I prefer to sleep, the foot of the bed.

She found my ouchie really quick. I have a cut on the pad of my right front foot. I wasn’t bleeding anymore (I’d done a good job licking it). But she put some ointment on it anyway. That made it feel lots better and I got lots of loving too.

The Chase is on!
December 30th 2008 8:52 pm

Oh! Mom has made me sooo happy the past couple days!! The weather has been nice, warmer than average temperatures. So she’s been playing outside with me after she comes home from work (it’s dark outside, but the floodlights help light up the yard). My favorite game is Chase! I snag my retriever bumper and off I go. Mom doesn’t stand a chance… I can run like the wind. She’ll chase me one direction for a while, then she stops, then it’s off in the opposite direction. Sometimes I’ll be nice and let her have my bumper. She’ll give it a great big toss and off I run to fetch it. So Much FUN!

WOW!!!
December 31st 2008 9:49 am

Wow! What a way to send out the old year! I’m a Dogster Daily Diary pick again! Myself and my family are so thrilled. Thanks Dogster! Now I just need to polish up my dictating skill so I can advance to being the Dairy of the Day. That will be my resolution for the next year… make it to the top Diary position!

Okay, I’m off to play in the leaves! Hope every pup has a great New Years!!!

November 2008

Day Care
November 4th 2008 10:04 am

Mom says I’m going to start going to daycare (yes, they do have daycare for us pups)! Day care is soo fun, lots of pups to play with and swimming too! An indoor heated pool for dogs. How spoiled is that?? Mom thinks it will be good for me to socialize with other dogs during the day and she knows I’ll be safe there too. She’ll drop me off when she heads to work and pick me up when she gets off. Not a bad deal if I do say so myself. I’m visiting today and plan on officially starting tomorrow. Sweet!!

I’ve been tagged
November 7th 2008 11:29 am

I was tagged by my pal,Abby! It’s a game, the one where you tell everyone 7 things about yourself and then tag 7 of your buddies to do the same.

Ready? Set! Go!

1. I am a momma’s boy
2. I am a rescue
3. I love pulling the stuffing out of toys
4. I love playing in water
5. I love going to the dog park
6. Food is my friend
7. I love playing with Annie, Ty & Sasha

Woo hoo! I did it! Did ya learn something new?

Boring
November 13th 2008 6:51 pm

My life has been pretty boring lately. The most excitement that I’ve had is chasing my kitty brother. He’s a pissy ol’ thing. Likes to yeow and smack at me. That sounds like an invitation to play to me… I’m sure this isn’t what he has in mind, but that’s his problem. It entertains me for a brief time chasing him around the house and practicing my BIG DOG bark at him. Mom thinks it’s funny and says as long as I don’t hurt the kitty I can have all the fun I want with him.

Pip - the mean kitty

It Snowed! (sort of)
November 20th 2008 9:33 pm

Yes… it did snow yesterday. Inside my home at that! Well…. it wasn’t real snow, but it sure looked like it inside my crate. Sadly, my pretty little holiday decorated bed is no more. It’s flat, completely de-stuffed. So is my funky monkey toy. De-stuffed, de-squeakered and monkey is now missing one leg. Hey! It gets boring in my crate, a fella has to entertain himself somehow!

Proof of prior bed de-stuffing. Ty & Annie caught me with the evidence

Today is my BIRTHDAY!!!
November 22nd 2008 2:13 pm

Yup, ya got it right… today is my birthday! Time to pawty!! I’m one year old today. Mom says it’s really hard to believe. She remembers when I was a tiny ball of fluff. Mom forgot to get me something special when she was out earlier today, but I think I’ve made her feel bad for letting my birthday slip her mind. She mentioned that she needs to go back to the feed store to pick up some things she forgot earlier. I bet that’s gonna be my birthday gift. Maybe a new stuffie toy? Or some big bone for me to chew on? I think I’ll lay here for a while and think about what I’d like to have. Maybe those thought will float through the air and get into mom’s head.
My gifts
November 24th 2008 8:49 am

I was right… Mom did go back out Saturday afternoon to buy me a birthday gift. I got a new stuffed squeaky toy! It looks like a cross between a rabbit and a fox. It’s soooo coool! Then she got some Greenies & duck jerky (I’m sure I’ll have to share those). Not too bad for a first birthday!

Annie & I enjoying a Greenie treat

What’s This?!
November 28th 2008 5:37 pm

I come inside from playing this afternoon and WHAT’S THIS?? A tree in my living room? I’ve never seen such a thing. Mom says it’s because this will be my first Christmas with a family. What’s Christmas??

What’s this? What’s this?
There’s color everywhere
What’s this?
There’s white things in the air
What’s this?
I can’t believe my eyes
I must be dreaming
Wake up, Jack, this isn’t fair
What’s this?

What’s this? What’s this?
There’s something very wrong
What’s this? What’s this?
There are people singing songs

In here they’ve got a little tree, how queer
And who would ever think
And why?

They’re covering it with tiny little things
They’ve got electric lights on strings
And there’s a smile on everyone
So, now, correct me if I’m wrong
This looks like fun
This looks like fun
Oh, could it be I got my wish?
What’s this?

The sights, the sounds
They’re everywhere and all around
I’ve never felt so good before
This empty place inside of me is filling up
I simply cannot get enough

I want it, oh, I want it
Oh, I want it for my own
I’ve got to know
I’ve got to know
What is this place that I have found?
What is this?
… Christmas Town, hmm.

What’s This? — Part II
November 30th 2008 9:05 pm

What’s this?? I’m sleeping peacefully in the couch, all snuggled up against mom, and then it happened.

“I get a strange magic,
Oh, what a strange magic,
Oh, it’s a strange magic.
Got a strange magic,
Got a strange magic.”

A bright light flashed outside. And then a long, low rumble followed. Must be some strange magic going on. Thunder? How can that be?? It’s almost the first of December!! Hrummpfff… strange magic….
